Responsible Travel announces a major leadership shift as Justin Francis becomes executive chair.

    • The company has appointed Richard Skinner and Tim Williamson as joint managing directors to oversee operations.
    • This restructure aligns with Responsible Travel’s recent growth due to rising demand.
    • A key decision was made to sever ties with Barclays Bank over fossil fuel investments.
    • Emphasis on sustainable and ethical banking has led to a new partnership with Unity Trust Bank.

Responsible Travel has undergone a significant leadership transformation with Justin Francis stepping into the role of executive chair. This restructuring comes at a pivotal time of growth for the company, driven by an increase in customer demand and the expansion of its member partnerships team.

With Francis transitioning, Richard Skinner and Tim Williamson have been appointed as joint managing directors, tasked with the day-to-day running of the company. This move ensures that the firm remains at the forefront of sustainable tourism practices, as evidenced by their recent strategic decisions.

Justin Francis stated the company had reached over 200,000 customers and described 2023 as their best year by far. He shared an introspective quote from Robert Frost, highlighting the company’s journey on the less-travelled path as a source of their success.

A noteworthy decision following the leadership change was the termination of their banking relationship with Barclays due to concerns over Barclays’ investments in fossil fuels. Instead, Responsible Travel has partnered with Unity Trust Bank, reflecting their commitment to responsible and ethical banking.

Tim Williamson emphasized the dual impact of tourism on both positive cultural exchange and climate change, focusing on reducing carbon footprints through divestment from fossil fuels. He remarked, “Investing with them made us part of that problem. The world of ethical banking is small, though growing, and it took time to find the right alternative – but the investment values at Unity Trust Bank are a great match for us.” Williamson stressed the importance of aligning business operations with sustainability values.
