Abta LifeLine has announced an exciting initiative for 2025, named the G Trek for Good, in collaboration with G Adventures. This effort aims to bring together a group of 30 dedicated volunteers from the travel industry to embark on a five-day trek through the lesser-known Inca city of Choquequirao in Peru. The trek, which will traverse stunning landscapes of forests, canyons, and mountain passes, is not only a journey of physical endurance but also one of compassion, aiming to raise funds for those in the travel sector facing hardships.
The expedition is designed to be both challenging and rewarding, with participants treated to breathtaking scenery throughout the journey. Abta LifeLine’s director, Trudie Clements, highlighted the trek’s potential impact, sharing that the previous year’s event successfully raised over £30,000, which has played a crucial role in supporting families in need. “They will be treated to stunning scenery which will make it all worth it,” Clements remarked, underlining the trek’s dual purpose of adventure and aid.
The announcement was made at Abta’s Travel Convention, where a commendable £17,000 was raised. These funds were earmarked for aiding individuals across the travel industry who find themselves in challenging situations. The charity’s support has been described as “life-changing” for families, offering assistance in covering essential expenses such as bills, household items, and even food.
A poignant testament to the charity’s work was shared, involving a Tui travel agent named Clare. After her son suffered severe injuries from a fall in Tenerife, the charity stepped in to cover the extended stay and return travel costs, easing a significant burden during a trying time. Clare’s story exemplifies the charity’s commitment to offering critical support where it’s most needed.
Emphasising the broad reach of their aid, Clements stated, “It’s for anyone that is struggling right now, whether it’s an unimaginable situation, accident or injury or a sick child or money needed for school uniforms.” The organisation’s drive to provide comprehensive support is further bolstered by contributions from various supporters, including Barrhead Travel which donated £1,000.
The 2025 G Trek for Good exemplifies Abta LifeLine’s dedication to supporting industry colleagues through innovative fundraising efforts.
