The recent expansion of European rail services has prompted calls for governmental support to boost inter-European travel.

    • The Eurostar snow train will extend its service to cover the half-term period this winter.
    • Inghams has significantly increased its seat allocation on the snow train due to high demand last year.
    • Rail routes now include additional resorts, broadening options for sustainable travel.
    • The new government is urged to enhance policies for improved rail access beyond London.

Recent developments in European rail services have highlighted the urgent need for governmental support in driving inter-European travel forward. With Inghams Ski’s latest expansion of snow train services, there has been a growing call for the new government to urgently back inter-European rail by enhancing accessibility and infrastructure.

This winter, the Eurostar snow train will operate over an extended period to include the half-term weeks. The service is set to run from December 21 to February 22, 2025, allowing more travellers to experience the convenience and sustainability of rail travel to popular ski destinations like Val d’Isère, Tignes, and Les Arcs.

In response to last year’s high demand, Inghams has tripled its seat allocation on the Eurostar snow train. This move underscores not only a commitment to meet customer needs but also to maintain the viability of the route. John Mansell, Inghams Ski managing director, emphasised the importance of these services, stating, “The demand is real,” and reiterated the role of train travel in their sustainability strategy.

The expansion doesn’t stop at existing destinations. Additional rail routes to resorts such as Morzine and Avoriaz are being introduced, making up 25% of Inghams’ global ski resorts accessible by train from the UK. These expansions highlight the growing significance of sustainable travel solutions in reducing carbon emissions.

There is a pressing need for the new government to support these efforts by creating policies that improve rail travel’s reach and affordability beyond London and the southeast. Such measures would make sustainable travel options more accessible to a broader audience, aligning with both environmental goals and customer convenience.

The expansion of European rail services, backed by government support, is crucial for sustainable travel innovation.
