The recent catastrophic floods in Spain have resulted in a tragic loss of nearly 160 lives and a global call for aid.

    • Intrepid has launched an urgent appeal to support the flood-stricken regions in Spain.
    • Fundraising efforts are underway to assist devastated communities in eastern and southern Spain.
    • In collaboration with local NGOs, immediate relief is being provided to those affected by the disaster.
    • Despite the disaster, travel operations continue unimpeded and safeguards are actively monitored.

The severe flash floods that have ravaged parts of Spain have sadly claimed almost 160 lives, creating a critical need for support. This grave situation has propelled Intrepid to initiate an urgent appeal. When a disaster affects one of our local communities, it impacts all of us, expressed Biheng Zhang, the general manager of The Intrepid Foundation.

In a commendable move, Intrepid has pledged to match all funds raised in their appeal. These funds are vital for delivering assistance to communities hit by the harsh weather conditions. The deluge has caused widespread devastation across eastern and southern regions, especially in Valencia and La Mancha, resulting in power failures, road blockages, and significant property damage.

Intrepid and its affiliated local organisation, Casa Caridad, are collaborating closely with the Valencian government to furnish immediate necessities such as food and clothing to those in dire need. Casa Caridad’s ongoing efforts are focused not only on relief but also on strategically directing resources to the most affected areas as the crisis continues to unfold.

Remarkably, all Intrepid tours persist as planned, with the company vigilantly following updates and directives from local authorities to ensure the ongoing safety of its travellers. There are no travel restrictions locally or internationally related to this event, and the risk to travellers remains low, according to a company statement, underscoring their commitment to safe travel.

Florencia Allo Moreno, overseeing Intrepid’s operations in western Europe, who is also directly impacted, articulated the widespread distress: The current situation in Spain is devastating and communities are suffering deeply. Her words resonate with Intrepid’s imperative to aid a beloved destination for many of its travellers.

The continuous outpouring of support exemplifies the collective effort to restore normalcy in disaster-stricken Spanish communities.
