    The company’s most recent move, which involves a multi-billion dollar agreement to rent Google’s Tensor Processing Units and a significant commitment to AMD AI chips on top of its current Nvidia contracts, indicates something more significant than supply diversification.     The key word here is demand. The amount of compute resources needed to train large AI models has surpassed that of earlier cloud expansions.     The industry as a whole is shaken. Startups compete fiercely for GPU allotments. Businesses wait for capacity for months. Pricing arrangements are modified by cloud providers. Compute has changed from a commodity to a choke point due to AI.

    Realizing that choke point is reflected in Meta’s AMD wager, which is stacked on top of Nvidia contracts and Google TPU rentals. The business isn’t just purchasing chips. Time is being bought. Purchasing adaptability. purchasing protection against getting excluded from the upcoming AI advancement.
