ABTA Promotes Winter Sports Holidays for 2012

The Association of British Travel Agents (ABTA), a UK-based travel agents association, is launching a winter sports marketing campaign for enthusiasts.

The association will be exhibiting at the Ski and Snowboard show at Earl’s Court, in London from October 31, to November 4, 2012. The ABTA stand will be hosting a number of activities, including a Wii ski jump competition to win a seven night snow-sure ski holiday, and a prize draw to win either a seven-night break or a weekend for two to Hemsedal, Norway.

Victoria Bacon, the head of communications at ABTA, said, ‘For many of our Members the winter sports market is an important part of their business and these activities will help educate consumers about the advantages of booking with an ABTA Member in an inspiring and fun way. We also want to make sure those going away are fully prepared to enjoy their ski trip as that helps our Members ensure their customers have a safe and happy holiday.’

ABTA and the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO), a UK government agency that oversees the interests of UK residents overseas, are jointly producing a Winter Sports Checklist and a guide on ‘How to have a safe and healthy holiday in the snow’, currently available on www.abta.com/getfitforski.

ABTA staff and members will be offering travel advice, tips and information for travel consumers to help them decide on the perfect winter sports holidays.

A recent report from ABTA’s Consumer Trends research shows that awareness of ABTA among younger travellers has increased from 36 percent last year, to 38 percent this year, with ‘younger travellers’ being in the 15 to 24-year age group.
