Contemporary Lebanese canteen, Comptoir Libanais, has opened its first ever airport restaurant at London Gatwick for passengers travelling out of the North Terminal, Gatwick Airport said.

The launch also marks the sixth London outlet for the brand as the taste of Lebanese cuisine becomes increasingly popular across the capital. Comptoir Libanais is the latest addition to the Gatwick line up, which already includes Jamie’s Bakery, Union Jack’s Bar and YO! Sushi.

The Gatwick restaurant claims to offer a varied and affordable menu, including new Lebanese hot breakfasts and an easy-to-carry take-away service. There is also a large range of low calorie, vegetarian and Halal dishes, plus a children’s menu.

The 1,800 square foot restaurant, run by TRG Concessions, is located on level three of the North Terminal. The modern Middle Eastern ambiance has been designed to present a buzzy, informal, cafe culture. Besides the dining experience, passengers can buy a range of Middle East products, including hand embroidered bags, cookbooks, Harissa tins and silver mint tea pots.

Charlotte Christiansen, business development manager for catering at London Gatwick says: ‘Choice, quality and affordability are the watchwords of our Gatwick food and beverage strategy and Comptoir Libanais helps us deliver on each of those promises to our passengers. Diners can choose from a colourful array of mezze, wraps, salads and tagines and share a healthy, ‘home style’ meal served up in sumptuous surroundings for under GBP10. We look forward to seeing and hearing the reaction and feedback from passengers.’

Tony Kitous, founder and creative director at Comptoir Libanais, says: ‘We’ve long dreamt of bringing Beirut design, culture and cuisine to people across the UK and coming to Gatwick is a major step towards achieving that. Our healthy mezze platters, dips and bowls are perfect for people wanting to kick-start their holiday enjoying a meal with friends and family or for those that need to pick up food at speed for the plane.’

Nick Ayerst, managing director of TRG Concessions says: ‘We feel sure that Comptoir Libanais is the perfect fit for Gatwick’s passengers, with its fast, nutritious and flavoursome food catering for all tastes, timeframes and budgets. Having the choice of in-restaurant or on the plane dining, of small bites or larger plates means it’s an ideal option for families, groups of friends or business travellers alike.’
