    IATA and Amadeus Collaborate to Reduce Airline Payment Processing Costs

    Airline carriers are on the brink of a substantial financial transformation as IATA partners with Amadeus’ Outpayce. This new collaboration introduces a payment method allowing direct account transfers, eliminating hefty card-processing fees.

    The aviation industry could potentially save $20 billion annually by bypassing traditional card systems. This development promises not only cost efficiency but also enhances transaction security and compliance for airlines globally.

    The partnership between IATA and Amadeus’ Outpayce platform heralds a new era in airline payment processing. By integrating Outpayce’s Xchange Payment Platform (XPP) with IATA Pay, airlines can now accept direct bank transfers from customers, significantly reducing transaction costs. This method circumvents the conventional card-processing systems that have been a financial burden to airlines, costing approximately $4.50 per flight booking.

    Philippine Airlines has become the first major carrier to implement IATA Pay, recognising the benefits of offering passengers a secure and efficient payment option. The collaboration offers a chance for the industry to transform its payment processes economically.

    The technological capabilities of Outpayce’s XPP facilitate a wide array of payment methods, making it versatile across international markets. The platform provides detailed analytics on payment flows and robust support for reconciliation.

    This integration not only simplifies the payment process but also ensures adherence to security and compliance standards, critical in today’s digital age.

    Jean-Christophe Lacour, Outpayce’s senior vice president, emphasised the commitment to expanding payment options through self-service APIs, simplifying connectivity for airlines worldwide.

    As the aviation industry continues to recover and grow, such innovative solutions are crucial. Leveraging new technologies allows airlines to streamline operations and improve their bottom line.
