Leeds Bradford Airport (LBA) has announced seven new routes for 2014, offering an increased destination and airline choice for passengers, according to an online report by BDaily.

While Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) is set to launch its first route between LBA and Copenhagen, Jet2.com and Eastern Airways will both add new destinations to expand their existing schedules.

SAS will launch its LBA operations on March 31, with a twice weekly service to Copenhagen, offering a direct link to Denmark’s capital and onward connectivity across Scandinavia and Eastern Europe.

Meanwhile, Jet2.com will introduce five new destinations in summer 2014. From April 3, Yorkshire travellers can fly directly to Hungarian capital, Budapest, with a twice-weekly service. Starting April 4, passengers can fly to Fuerteventura, Canary Islands, while Jet2.com’s operations to Kos in Greece will commence on May 6.

On May 14, Jet2.com will launch a new destination, Verona in Italy. The airline will also introduce services to Reus on June 17.

Effective from January 20, Eastern Airways will introduce services between Leeds Bradford and Southampton, expanding on its current operations to Aberdeen. The airline will operate to Southampton three-times daily, Monday to Friday, as well as a Sunday afternoon service that is intended to offer flexibility and convenience for both business and leisure travellers.

Tony Hallwood, Leeds Bradford Airport’s aviation development & marketing director, said: ‘I am delighted to introduce new airline SAS this year alongside the growth of our existing airlines Jet2.com and Eastern Airways.

‘We are anticipating another exciting year for Leeds Bradford Airport, building on our established route network to offer more choice for our business and leisure passengers than ever before.’

According to a separate report by the Telegraph and Argus, Leeds-Bradford International Airport and airline Jet 2 have received top national travel industry awards.

The Yeadon airport has been named the best in the UK at the annual Globe Travel Awards, while leisure airline, Jet2.com, which has its headquarters at the airport, has retained its best short-haul airline title for a third time. Voted for by travel agents, the awards recognise excellence across the travel industry.
