Ryanair has announced an expansion of its winter service capacity from the City of Derry airport.

The additional flights aim to strengthen connections to Birmingham and Manchester, enhancing options for both business and leisure travellers.

Ryanair has extended its service to Birmingham into the winter season. Initially reintroduced during the summer, this route continues to meet the demands of regular commuters, especially those travelling for business at the start of the week and returning at the weekend. The enhanced schedule now includes a service on Mondays, adding convenience for a wide range of passengers.

The Manchester route is also seeing an increase, with an extra return service being added to the existing schedule. Operating six flights weekly on Mondays, Fridays, and Sundays, the expanded service is tailored to cater to both business and leisure travellers, providing greater flexibility particularly across the Christmas period. This move aims to accommodate an expected surge in passenger demand during the holiday season.

The airline’s increased winter capacity is expected to bolster not only travel convenience for local residents but also support economic activities by attracting more visitors to Northern Ireland.

Local authorities and tourism boards have welcomed Ryanair’s expansion, acknowledging the potential for increased economic activity and job creation in the region.

Frazer emphasised the convenience the expanded schedule offers to students and weekend travellers, ensuring that travel to and from key locations remains accessible and efficient throughout the winter.

The expanded services are part of Ryanair’s long-term strategy to contribute to the area’s aviation sector growth, supporting both the economy and tourism.

The expansion is poised to benefit both the local economy and travellers by improving access and convenience while supporting local businesses and tourism initiatives.

Ryanair’s expanded winter services from City of Derry airport are set to significantly enhance connectivity and economic opportunities in Northern Ireland.

This development is poised to benefit both frequent flyers and the local economy, demonstrating Ryanair’s commitment to the region’s growth.
