Stansted Airport has reached a significant milestone, welcoming a record 28.5 million passengers in the year leading up to March.

This remarkable achievement is part of a broader trend of growth observed by its parent company, MAG, which experienced a 13.4% increase, totalling over 61 million passengers across its airports.

This year, Stansted Airport witnessed an impressive surge in passenger numbers, marking an 11.8% year-on-year increase. Such growth underlines Stansted’s role as a vital hub in MAG’s network, offering convenient connections to a variety of destinations. The airport’s impressive annual total is a testament to its operational capabilities and passenger appeal.

In March, Stansted and Manchester both managed 2.2 million passengers, surpassing 2019’s figures, largely due to the timing of Easter. This achievement is indicative of strategic management and the ability to cater to high travel demands efficiently.

Destinations like Dubai have shown remarkable growth, bolstered by Emirates’ reintroduction of a double-daily service. Similarly, Switzerland, Iceland, and Moldova have seen increased interest, indicating broader travel trends.

Ken O’Toole, CEO of MAG, highlighted that the growth reflects the airports’ commitment to providing accessible and affordable travel options. This commitment plays a crucial role in driving regional economic prosperity.

Furthermore, plans to recruit additional staff and improve services at Stansted demonstrate the group’s proactive approach to future-proofing its operations.

Gareth Powell, Managing Director of Stansted, expressed optimism about the strategic enhancements being made to serve passengers better. These efforts reflect a dedication to tailoring services to meet modern travel needs.

The travel landscape is evolving, with Stansted leading the way in passenger growth. This success story is indicative of broader positive trends in European tourism, which continues to recover and expand.
