SunExpress, a Turkish-German leisure airline, has announced the appointment of Helmut Wolfel as its new commercial director, effective October end. By bringing Wolfel onboard from Lufthansa’s Discover Airlines, SunExpress aims to capitalise on his extensive industry experience.

Wolfel’s appointment marks a strategic move for SunExpress as he steps into the shoes of Peter Glade. The airline seeks to leverage his expertise to maintain and further enhance its commercial success, embarking on an ambitious journey of growth and innovation.

Helmut Wolfel’s wealth of experience primarily stems from various commercial roles at Lufthansa, where he last served as chief commercial officer at Discover Airlines. His familiarity with the leisure travel segment provides SunExpress with a robust foundation for steering its commercial initiatives. His ability to harness potential markets and networks is seen as a substantial asset by industry observers.

A crucial part of Wolfel’s job will involve aligning strategic objectives with SunExpress’s long-term vision. By doing so, the airline seeks not just to sustain but escalate its commercial triumphs achieved under Peter Glade’s leadership.

Max Kownatzki, the airline’s chief executive, expressed gratitude towards Glade, acknowledging his leadership in creating mutually beneficial customer partnerships that bolstered SunExpress’s reputation as a leading leisure airline.

Focusing on sustainable growth, SunExpress earmarks the potential for newer routes and partnerships under Wolfel’s directorship, subsequently boosting its market presence.

His leadership is expected to amplify SunExpress’s core strengths, promoting an organisational culture that values agility and customer satisfaction.

As Wolfel commences his role, there’s an expectation of a dynamic shift in how SunExpress attracts and retains its clientele through modernised service offerings.
