In a new Hall of Fame, Prestwick Airport in Scotland will honour those key figures in aeronautics and engineering that led the development of Scottish aviation. The initiative was launched on July 25, which marks the 100th anniversary of flights from the Ayrshire airport. Bristol Airport is showcasing a Concorde visual experience for summer passengers. The airport has unveiled a lighting feature in the departure lounge based on the iconic ‘delta’ wing shape of Concorde. Passengers can new admire the acclaimed, locally built aircraft while waiting to board their flights. Newcastle International Airport has announced its future expansion plans, which are likely to result in more than 2,000 new jobs being created over the next decade. The plans will see extensive development of the site, with increased potential for the terminal, more car parking space and construction of office and factory space. British Airways’ first Airbus 380, the world’s largest commercial passenger aircraft, has landed safely at Manston Airport, Kent, UK. The Airbus, a recent addition to British Airway’s fleet, will be based at Manston as part of the airline’s training for its pilots, flight crew and cabin staff before the A380s commence service in September. Glasgow, Scotland’s second busiest airport, has announced its busiest June for five years, as passenger numbers increased by 5.4 percent to nearly 775,000 compared to 2012. Concerns over the safety of the world’s newest passenger plane have increased after a Boeing 787 Dreamliner operated by Ethiopian Airlines caught fire at Heathrow airport on Friday, and another 787 carrying British holidaymakers to Florida returned home after a technical fault.
