National Trust, the charitable organisation that looks after around 250,000 hectares of countryside, 720 miles of coastline, and numerous historic places in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, has announced the opening of a visitor centre at the Giant’s Causeway in Northern Ireland. Travelodge Hotels, a US-based company that owns and operates hotel properties, has announced the opening four new properties in London in July 2012, making it the largest hotel brand in London for the 2012 Olympics. The company has provided around £36 million in investment to open new Travelodge brand properties in the Balham, Enfield, ExCel and Woolwich areas of London. With the new properties, the company has around 54 hotels in London, offering a total of 7,024 rooms. British travellers can easily land themselves with excess baggage charges if they do not take more care when packing for their travels, according to a survey conducted by UK-based, Kelkoo Travel. This summer alone, the excess baggage spend by British travellers is likely to be around £1 million a day, the report claims. The survey said that 55 percent of reported travellers have exceeded their excess baggage allowance in 2011, and spent a total of £186 million, or £48 per person. Fastjet, a new airline that will be offering low-cost services to Africa, is due to be launched in October 2012. The airline will be operated by Rubicon Diversified Investments, a UK-based holding company, in consultation with Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannou, founder of Easyjet, a UK-based low-cost airline. Fastjet has recently entered into an agreement with Airbus to lease A319 aircraft for the launch of its services.
