Virgin Atlantic has said that it will restart its flights to Shanghai, re-establishing both business and leisure connections between the United Kingdom and China. The move comes following a relaxation in travel restrictions between the two countries, which sees the borders reopening to foreign nationals for the first time since 2020. Shanghai is Virgin Atlantic’s final route to be re-instated following the global pandemic, having been closed for a total of 859 days at the point of its relaunch. British Airways has announced that it will resume flights between the UK and mainland China this summer. The resumption comes after a two-year absence following the Coronavirus pandemic. British Airways first flew to China in 1980 and continued to do so until the pandemic. As it resumes the services, tickets are now on sale for flights to Shanghai from April 23 and Beijing from June 3. From 23 April, flights will operate daily between London Heathrow and Shanghai Pudong International Airport – flight numbers BA168/BA169. Ryanair, the UK regional airline, has announced its new Liverpool schedule for Summer 2023, with 31 routes including four new sunshine destinations like Ibiza, Madrid, and Rome. In addition, the Ireland-based airline has increased frequencies on seven of Ryanair’s most popular Liverpool routes, viz. Alicante, Cork, Dublin, Knock, Paris, Reus and Tenerife. Jet2.com and Jet2holidays have expanded their Winter 23/24 schedule, adding extra capacity to Turkey (Dalaman and Antalya) and Cyprus (Paphos). The expansion represents an extra 32,000 seats going on sale, offering customers and independent travel agents more than 4.3 million seats on sale in total for Winter 23/24. To Turkey, Jet2.com and Jet2holidays have added capacity to Dalaman with additional November flights from all ten UK bases (Belfast International, Birmingham, Bristol, East Midlands, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Leeds Bradford, Manchester, Newcastle and London Stansted). Delta Air Lines has said that it is increasing its Edinburgh Airport to Atlanta service to a daily service thanks to continued strong demand for transatlantic travel. At the launch of the route last September, the service was initially set to operate five times per week, which will now increase to seven times per week from May 25 to September 5, 2023. The additional flights to the region will operate until October 28, from Birmingham Airport. Emirates is set to resume its second daily service to Dubai from London Stansted as demand picks up. Starting May 1, 2023, the additional flight will operate using the airline’s wide-body Boeing 777-300ER aircraft with its ‘Game Changer’ First Class product.
