The Cruise D&I initiative is poised to expand, following the successful completion of its pilot programme. This effort focuses on enhancing social mobility, diversity, and inclusion within the cruise industry.

Envisioned by Mundy Cruising’s Matthew and Edwina Lonsdale, the project provided ten students with enriching industry exposure, catalysing potential career paths in cruising. The positive outcomes have paved the path for future growth and expansion.

The initial phase of The Compass Project has successfully concluded, setting a foundation for future growth. The initiative, led by Matthew and Edwina Lonsdale of Mundy Cruising, focused on enhancing social mobility, diversity, and inclusivity in the cruise industry. It involved ten Year 12 students from St John Bosco College, exposing them to diverse career opportunities within the cruise sector.

The visits provided students with a practical perspective, enhancing their industry knowledge and career outlook. This immersive experience broadened their understanding of potential career paths in the cruise industry, making theoretical knowledge tangible.

Feedback from both students and cruise partners was overwhelmingly positive. The success of these presentations may pave the way for more such initiatives, enabling greater interaction between students and industry professionals.

A partnership with a Southampton-based college is being considered to further broaden the project’s reach. Such collaborations aim to provide more students with access to this transformative opportunity.

Andy Harmer, CLIA UK & Ireland’s MD, also praised the students’ dedication. He emphasised the industry’s vibrant and innovative nature and the value of having a talented pool of young applicants ready for employment.

Gratitude was expressed towards everyone involved, especially the students, who showcased immense potential and readiness to step into cruise industry careers.
