Royal Caribbean Group has signed a significant agreement with Finnish shipbuilder Meyer Turku to construct a fourth Icon class ship, slated for delivery in 2027.

The agreement, which also includes options for potentially two more vessels, marks a notable expansion in Royal Caribbean’s fleet, following the successful debut of the Icon class in January 2024.

The Icon class represents a new era of cruising for Royal Caribbean, with the Icon of the Seas having set a new standard when it launched in January 2024. Following in its wake, the Star of the Seas, anticipated for a 2025 debut, and another unnamed third ship scheduled for 2026, promise to extend this legacy.

Royal Caribbean’s strategic alliance with Meyer Turku underscores the company’s commitment to innovative vessel design and passenger experience.

Jason Liberty, president and CEO, highlighted how the Icon class exceeded expectations in both guest satisfaction and financial outcomes.

Expanding the fleet further positions Royal Caribbean to capture market momentum and enhance its growth trajectory.

The partnership with Meyer Turku is not only a boon for Royal Caribbean but also a significant contributor to Finland’s maritime sector.

Prime Minister Petteri Oreo remarked on the positive economic implications, noting the sustained employment and investment benefits for Finland.

The addition of these vessels enhances the global presence of Finland’s shipbuilding industry, supporting local economies and international maritime leadership.

With the latest order, Royal Caribbean’s newbuild pipeline now comprises seven vessels, with an additional two shipyard options.

This strategy ensures the company remains at the forefront of the cruise industry, offering cutting-edge experiences.

Concurrently, Royal Caribbean has announced a seventh Oasis class ship, with a planned debut in 2028, demonstrating its dual focus on both luxury and innovation.

This expansion showcases Royal Caribbean’s diverse portfolio of offerings and capacity for industry leadership.

Royal Caribbean’s ambitious expansion reflects its confidence in the future of cruise tourism. The order with Meyer Turku aligns with broader industry trends of sustainability and technologically advanced cruising.

This growth strategy positions Royal Caribbean to address evolving consumer demands for unique and memorable cruise experiences.

This order signifies a crucial step in Royal Caribbean’s ambition to lead innovation and sustainability in the maritime industry.

Royal Caribbean’s continued investment in the Icon class underlines its commitment to expanding its fleet with modern, efficient vessels.

This strategic move not only enhances the company’s market presence but also contributes positively to the global cruise industry and the maritime economy of Finland.
