British Airways’ Executive Club Members to collect Avios based on ticket price

British Airways Executive Club Members can now accumulate Avios based on the ticket price when booking their flights – a shift away from the previous distance-based system.

This new approach also extends to eligible ancillary purchases like pre-paid seat selections, upgrades, and excess baggage. Under this investment in the airline’s frequent flyer programme, it is expected that the new model will result in a 20% increase in the issuance of Avios to the overall member base. Most members will either collect more or the same amount of Avios as before under this new framework. This revised model also applies to flights marketed by Iberia and American Airlines.

The quantity of Avios collected depends on the Member’s Tier status:

    * Blue members will receive 6 Avios for every qualifying £1 spent.

    * Bronze members will receive 7 Avios for every qualifying £1 spent.

    * Silver members will receive 8 Avios for every qualifying £1 spent.

    * Gold members will receive 9 Avios for every qualifying £1 spent.

Colm Lacy, British Airways’ Chief Commercial Offer, said: ‘In line with other airlines and loyalty schemes, we are making collecting Avios as simple and consistent as we can for our customers. With our forecast showing that we’ll be issuing more Avios, we’re looking forward to helping many of our Members get one step closer to their next trip away.

‘As well as investing in this new way of collecting Avios, we continue to make it easier for Members to collect as part of their everyday spend – from their daily commute and weekly shop to morning coffee and treating themselves.’

In addition to this adjustment in Avios collection, British Airways will continue to make it easier for members to accumulate Avios as part of their everyday spending, whether it’s through their daily commute, weekly shopping, morning coffee, or treats. British Airways Executive Club members can now collect Avios in multiple ways including using the British Airways American Express Credit Card, traveling with Uber, converting Nectar points, and shopping on the British Airways Avios eStore.

The qualifying costs include the base fare and carrier-imposed charges on commercial tickets for British Airways, American Airlines, and Iberia marketed flights, as well as upgrades (online or airport), pre-paid seating charges, or excess baggage on British Airways and Iberia marketed and operated flights. For Iberia marketed flights, Avios collection will follow the Iberia Plus proposition. For other airlines, customers will continue to collect Avios according to the accrual model of each specific airline.
