British Airways has announced a new service to Aberdeen, in Scotland, from London City Airport in the UK.

The new service commences on September 24, 2012, from London City Airport, and is offered by BA Cityflyer, a subsidiary of the company.

BA Cityflyer will be operating Embraer E170 and E190 jets for the new route. The airline is currently flying passengers from London Heathrow Airport to the Scottish city of Aberdeen, and the new route will be in addition to the existing route. The sale of tickets for the new route is already open for advance bookings, for introductory rates commencing from £81 one way.

Luke Hayhoe, BA CityFlyer commercial manager, said, ‘Our direct flights from Edinburgh and Glasgow to London City are extremely popular with Scottish customers who want to want fly straight to the heart of the City, for both business or leisure. We are delighted to be adding flights from Aberdeen linking Europe’s oil capital with the UK’s financial and business hub. It reflects the strength of the economy in Aberdeen and the north east of Scotland. Aberdeen has been an important part of the British Airways network for many years and continues to be so.’

‘This new route complements the existing Aberdeen to Heathrow service, giving our customers greater choice and additional frequency when travelling between these two great wealth-generating cities.’

The route is currently served by UK-based airline, Easyjet. Easyjet also provides services from Luton and Gatwick airports in the UK to Aberdeen, while another UK airline, Flybe, serves Aberdeen from Gatwick airport.
