Qatar Airways has said that it will increase the five-weekly service between Edinburgh and Doha to daily service starting May 1, 2015.
The airline launched the city’s first Middle Eastern link earlier this year, and with the latest announcement offers Scottish passengers over 145 worldwide destinations to choose from, through the recently opened Hamad International Airport in Doha.
New daily service will depart Doha at 07:45 to arrive at Edinburgh at 13:00, and on return will depart from Edinburgh at 14:30 and arrive at Doha at 23:30. Qatar Airways will continue flying its Boeing 787 Dreamliner, offering customers the airline’s award-winning five-star service.
Gordon Dewar, chief executive of Edinburgh Airport, said: ‘This announcement is great news for Scottish passengers and reflects the fantastic relationship we’ve built with Qatar Airways since they joined us in May.
‘Our passengers will soon be able to access over 145 worldwide destinations every day through a single transfer in Doha.’
Separately, American Airlines said that it will start a new daily service between Edinburgh and New York’s JFK airport for the summer season next year.
Starting from May until September, the new daily service will offer Scottish passengers more choice for travelling to New York and onward destinations across North America. The flight will depart Edinburgh at 9:15am and arrive in JFK at approximately 11:45am (EST). American Airlines will be operating its Boeing 757-200, which has 16 lie-flat premium cabin seats.
‘As Scotland’s busiest airport we’re committed to providing our passengers with the best choice of destinations and airport experience. We’re delighted to be working with American Airlines and look forward to the launch of this new service next year,’ Dewar said.
