New flight routes from Manchester, Bristol and London are now heading direct to Tromsø and have inspired travel experts at Off the Map Travel to create a new way to experience the best that the ‘gateway to the Arctic’ has to offer.

They have combined some of the most exhilarating ways  to explore the Arctic wilderness via Tesla; picnic on a remote island; glide past mountain ranges via husky sled and even hunt for the Northern Lights from the most renowned Aurora spot on earth.

Available from December to March these luxury experiences incorporate thrill seeking excursions, stunning scenery and fine dining.

“We believe that travel should be an exciting opportunity to make the most incredible memories and we wanted to showcase some of the truly magical ways people can experience the beauty of Tromsø,” says Jonny Cooper, founder of Off the Map Travel.

“We have a special affinity with this part of Northern Norway which combines incredible culture and buzzing city nightlife with some of the world’s best outdoor pursuits like hiking and sledding. It  is in the centre of the northern lights’ oval, so visitors can catch the Aurora Borealis even when the activity is low.”

Meet with an expert guide who will take you to the most extraordinary parts of Tromsø via private Tesla. The trip includes a visit to Sommarøy, a small island with a reputation for crystal clear water, sandy beaches and rugged mountain ranges. A picnic lunch will be provided before you arrive at a luxury ‘Polar Night’ apartment where you can snuggle down and take in the incredible panoramic views of the mountain ranges and even catch a glimpse of the Northern Lights from the comfort of your bed.

Nature lovers will enjoy learning to mush with a team of huskies as you head out for a sledding adventure alongside the fjords.  Sample local cuisine with an Arctic Tasting experience of local delicacies, including fresh seafood and meats, accompanied by locally brewed beers and spirits before heading back to the  apartment for more star gazing.

For those looking for a thrill seeking adventure, hope on a snowmobile and glide through the scenery of the stunning Lyngen Alps.

Tromsø has a reputation as the Paris of the North for its rich culture, amazing restaurants and incredible nightlife. It is situated 350 km above the Arctic Circle and is home to the world’s northernmost university, renowned for research about the aurora borealis.

Explore the iconic Arctic Cathedral which hosts concerts throughout the year and take the Fjelheissen cable car up to experience the most spectacular views of Tromsø from Storsteinen mountain top.

Tromsø is the perfect spot for foodies keen to experience all that the Arctic has to offer. Norwegian food is about local and sustainable ingredients and with Tromsø bringing together a mix of cultures, the menus are incredibly diverse, with traditional Norwegian flavours and international dishes to choose from.

Evenings can be spent away from the city lights with a private Aurora hunting experience. Local guides know the locations providing the best opportunity to experience the natural light show of the aurora.

“We create experiences that embody all there is to love about Norway,” added Cooper.

“Tromsø is the largest city in Northern Norway but is in a coastal location meaning visitors get the best of both worlds when it comes to stunning natural beauty combined with unique cultural heritage.”
