Newcastle International Airport has said that its only official ‘Premium Meet and Greet’ car park has fully reopened to passengers following two years of closure due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Located directly in front of the terminal, the Premium Meet and Greet car park allows passengers to drop their car off and head straight into the terminal. Inside the facility, there is a modern waiting area – with a hotel-style reception, and uniformed members of staff to welcome and collect passenger keys.

Dean Ward, Director of Commercial at Newcastle International Airport said: ‘This is another milestone in the recovery of the Airport due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

‘Thanks to the relaxation of restrictions and the return of all of our airline partners to the region, we have seen a significant increase in passenger numbers over the past few weeks and we are expecting numbers to continue to rise as we head into the Summer season.

Now is the perfect time to reopen this outstanding facility and we look forward to once again providing the best possible experience for our passengers.’

The Airport reported an increase in passengers during the recent February half term school holidays. Over 75,000 customers passed through the terminal over the holiday period, with popular destinations including the Canary Islands, Dubai, Rome, Switzerland and Portugal.

Nick Jones, Chief Executive at Newcastle International Airport said: ‘It is wonderful to see more passengers back at the Airport for February half term, with many families finally heading off on a long-awaited holiday. As a business we have been working hard to prepare for the increase in passengers that we expect to see between now and the summer season and are very much looking forward to welcoming passengers from across the region back to the Airport.’

The Premium Meet and Greet car park was part of a multi-million pound investment into the Airport’s car parking facilities in 2019, which also included a new Premium Fast Track car parking area, located even closer to the terminal and featuring extra-wide parking bays.
