British Airways announces new flights from London City to Skiathos in Greece

British Airways has recently announced the launch of it first service to the Greek island of Skiathos from London City Airport.

Skiathos is part of the Sporades archipelago in the Aegean Sea, presented as the fictitious island of Kalokairi, the setting for the musical hit Mamma Mia! Besides its famous film connection, Skiathos is a popular tourist destination for its many pine forests and over 60 beaches.

The airline is now offering the new three-times-a-week British Airways flights from London City. It is the third Greek Island route – along with Mykonos and Santorini – that British Airways flies directly from London City Airport and it is the only scheduled service from the UK to Skiathos. Flights to Skiathos Island National Airport will operate during the peak summer weeks until September. Basic each way fares starting from £80 are available to book on www.ba.com/londoncity.

Flights will be operated using Embraer E190 aircraft in a two class, Club Europe business class and EuroTraveller economy configuration. With the new route, British Airways will operate 29 destinations from London City Airport this summer, offering almost two million seats, the airline said.

Luke Hayhoe, British Airways’ general manager customer and commercial, said: ‘After the release of the hugely popular Mamma Mia! film, Skiathos became one of the most sought after holiday destinations. It sits perfectly with our other Greek Island routes and gives our customers at London City the chance to put themselves in the picture’.

British Airways is also offering holiday packages that are available to book on ba.com including: seven nights at the four-star Angelina Studios, Kolois, on a room only basis from £524 per person in July, based on two people sharing, including return flights from London City; seven nights at the four-star Skiathos Club, Vassilias, on a bed and breakfast basis, with fares from £644.50 per person in July, based on two people sharing, including return flights from London City; and seven nights at the five-star Skiathos Princess, Aghia Paraskevi, on a bed and breakfast basis, from £1,412 per person in July, based on two people sharing, including return flights from London City.
