Jet2.com and Jet2holidays, a UK-based leisure airline and city break specialist, has announced the launch of the first flights to Athens, as flights departed from Manchester and Birmingham Airports to the historic Greek city.

The new flights mark the start of the carrier operating to Athens, with two weekly services, on Thursday and Sunday, available from each base until the end of October. With up to four weekly flights departing from the UK to Athens throughout the summer months, including weekend and mid-week services, holidaymakers can enjoy either a long weekend or longer break to the famous ancient city.

When planning a holiday to Athens, customers can choose from a flight-only with leisure airline, Jet2.com, or a package option with Jet2CityBreaks available for a GBP60 per person deposit. Package options with Jet2CityBreaks include flights with Jet2.com including 22kg free hold luggage and 10kg of free cabin baggage, transfers to and from the airport, as well as a choice of hotels in the best locations.

Jet2CityBreaks has a range of 3-5 hotels available in Athens City, in neighbourhoods such as Koukaki, Monastiraki and Plaka. These locations are claimed to provide easy access to tourist spots, including the flea market in Monastiraki, the nightlife in Psiri, the ‘Old Town’ of Plaka, the world-famous Acropolis or Syntagma Square.

The start of flights and city breaks to Athens is part of Jet2.com and Jet2holidays’ expanded programme for Summer 22. The company has announced a massive expansion for Summer 22, with over half a million extra seats on sale to Greece compared to Summer 19 – a capacity increase of 86 percent. Accordingly, the airline and tour operator has over 1.1 million seats on sale from the UK to Greece in Summer 22.

Besides offering services to Athens for the first time, Jet2 will also operate to two other new destinations this summer – Sardinia (Manchester and London Stansted) and Sicily (Leeds Bradford, Manchester and London Stansted) from May 1.

Steve Heapy, Jet2.com and Jet2holidays CEO, said: ‘As the UK’s leading airline and tour operator to Greece, we are delighted to see our first flights take off to Athens from Manchester and Birmingham Airports today. It is fantastic to be operating flights and city breaks to this historic city for the first time, as we know that Athens is a destination that customers want to get to. Since putting services on sale to Athens, customers have been flocking to book a getaway to the destination, proving just how popular the Greek hotspot is with holidaymakers. As well as operating to Athens for the first time, we are very pleased to be offering an enormous programme for Summer 22. With 15 destinations on sale to Greece this summer from across our network of ten UK bases, we are giving customers and independent travel agents unrivalled choice when it comes to enjoying a holiday with our award-winning airline and tour operator.’
