The Royal Scotsman, a UK-based luxury sleeper train, has announced its new itineraries for taking visitors on tours of the Scottish Highlands.

The 2012 season for The Royal Scotsman commences in May, with new liveried carriages, food and beverages made from local ingredients, and a view of the stately homes of Scotland.

The beauty of the Scottish highlands can be enjoyed by passengers from the train’s lounge and from the open veranda of the observation car. The dining venues include two dining cars, where traditional Scottish cuisine is served, and guests can opt for special dietary requirements when booking their stays.

The new season runs until October, and offers scheduled departures from Edinburgh Waverley Station, in Scotland, travelling through Loch Lomond, past Ben Nevis and the Morar Sands.

The new itineraries also include a two-night Highland Journey, a three-night Western Journey exploring the West Coast of Scotland, a four-night Classic Journey to sights including Glamis Castle, a five-night Grand West Highland Journey, and The Grand North Western Journey.

The season’s most important offering is a Grand Tour of Great Britain, an annual, seven-night journey to destinations including Bath, Oxford, Conwy in Wales, Cambridge and York.

Prices for the journey commence from £2,350 per person, and include all meals, beverages, excursions and accommodation. The Royal Scotsman season runs until October 26, 2012.

The company is offering a special package of complimentary nights at The Balmoral, Edinburgh and Cameron House, Loch Lomond to all passengers who complete their bookings by June 30, 2012.
