Hotel prices are expected to increase substantially for the Jubilee Weekend Bank Holiday, says a new report from Santander banking group.
Hotel prices are forecast to go up by as much as 54 percent on average in London, UK, for the four nights in June 2012, compared to an equivalent weekend in May 2012. The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations will officially run from June 2 to 5, 2012, and with three working days left in the week, people are expected to make the most of the opportunity to extend their holiday.
Reports also indicate that some hotels have upped their prices for the Jubilee Weekend by a massive 223 percent, with luxury accommodation prices set to rise by 81 percent, when compared to normal summertime weekend prices.
Most three to five star rated hotels are set to offer rooms for a price range commencing at £832 to £6,606 for a four-night stay, for a family of four, during the Jubilee Weekend.
Other cities in the UK are also reflecting a price rise for hotel rooms, with Edinburgh registering an average increase of 28 percent in room rates; while Manchester hotels are increasing by an average of 8 percent.
Andy Smith, head of media relations at Santander banking group, said, ‘Demand for hotel rooms in London is likely to be fierce over the Jubilee Bank Holiday weekend. The premiums our research has uncovered will price many families out of the capital altogether.
Families hoping to book a hotel stay around June 6 can still avoid some of the steeper premiums by shopping around for the best deal, or if they have transportation, considering a location that is slightly less central.’
