Türkiye’s efforts to secure EU recognition for döner kebab as a traditional product have encountered opposition from Germany. In response, Bereket Döner has published an academic study that highlights the Turkish origins and cultural significance of this renowned dish.

At a press conference held in Istanbul on 5th December, Bereket Döner presented its research, which aims to reinforce Türkiye’s application for EU acknowledgment.

“Our research demonstrates that döner is deeply rooted in Turkish history and culture,” said Mevlüt Ceyhun Tekdemir, Vice Chairman of Bereket Döner’s Board. “From Takiyeddin Efendi’s 16th-century mechanical drawings to insights from Evliya Çelebi, our evidence leaves no doubt about döner’s origins. We trust the European Commission to recognise this heritage appropriately.”

The study, Türkiye’s World-Famous Delicacy: Döner, offers compelling evidence, including engravings, artefacts, and Ottoman documents, that affirm döner kebab as a significant part of Turkish cultural history.

    Döner: A Symbol of Unity

“Döner is not about division; it’s about unity,” Tekdemir stated. “It’s a culinary tradition that brings people together, blending cultures and tastes in a unique way.”

During the press conference, Bereket Döner also unveiled plans to expand its Döner Point outlets across Europe, beginning with Germany. This expansion aims to introduce more people to the authentic taste of Turkish döner.

“We’re excited to bring the true taste of Turkish döner to Europe,” Tekdemir remarked. “Our expansion strategy reflects our commitment to preserving and sharing this cultural treasure with the world.”

Through these initiatives, Bereket Döner is committed to preserving the cultural heritage of Turkish döner while promoting its significance to a global audience.
