Norwich Airport announces winter programme with new Flybe schedule

Norwich Airport has added new holiday routes for Winter 2016 with new flights to Malaga and Alicante, plus a new ski flight to Chambery in the French Alps, all of which will be operated by Flybe, the UK-based low-fares airline.

Effective for travel from October 31, Flybe’s new winter schedule at Norwich will see the addition of two scheduled flights a week to both Alicante and Malaga, with a new Saturday service to Chambery commencing mid-December. The new routes are in addition to its recently launched Exeter service through the winter months.

The Chambery link will be the first winter ski flight from Norwich since 2010, adding to the list of holiday destinations. Norwich has also re-launched scheduled sunshine flights to Spain at Easter, following a nine-year absence.

Richard Pace, General Manager at Norwich Airport, said: ‘The partnership between RCA and Flybe means the new sunshine routes will operate year-round and we are delighted to be adding the popular ski resort of Chambery to our winter schedule.

‘With the addition of regular flights to Exeter, Norwich Airport is offering one of its best winter schedules for years.’

Flybe’s chief revenue officer, Vincent Hodder added: ‘Together with our partners at Norwich, Flybe will continue to look at ways to provide an increasing selection of attractive routes for our regional customers.

The diversity of our new winter schedule reinforces this commitment; and we look forward to welcoming many new passengers on board as they head off for winter sun and ski breaks, as well as those who are already enjoying the fast, easy convenience of our recently introduced services to Exeter. As the lowest possible fares sell out quickly, we would advise customers to book as early as possible to avoid disappointment, especially when looking to travel over peak holiday periods.’

The new flights are operated by one of Flybe’s E195 118-seater jet aircraft. Tickets are on sale now at www.flybe.com with one way fares from GBP17.49 including taxes and charges.

Norwich Airport offers direct scheduled flights to Amsterdam (with onward connections to over 600 destinations worldwide), Aberdeen, Alicante, Edinburgh, Exeter, Guernsey, Jersey, Malaga and Manchester. Connections through Manchester enable passengers to reach Belfast, Glasgow, Isle of Man, Inverness, among several other destinations. Holiday flights are also offered to the Balearic and Canary Islands, Cyprus, Turkey, Greece, Bulgaria and Italy.

British Airways announces new route to Alicante from London City

British Airways has announced plans to launch a new leisure service to Alicante from London City Airport this summer.

The new flights to the popular holiday destination on Spain’s Costa Blanca will operate four times a week for 10 weeks from the end of June.

The new Alicante route will be the seventh Spanish route for British Airways at London City, where already operates flights to Madrid, Malaga, Palma, Ibiza and Menorca. In addition it also operates services to Granada, which is the only direct air-link from the UK to the Andalucian airport.

Luke Hayhoe, British Airways’ general manager commercial and customer, London City, said: ‘The Spanish Costas are still one of the most sought after holiday destinations for British holiday makers and our new service means they can travel from the heart of London to Alicante in just two and a half hours.’

With the launch of the new service, British Airways will serve 33 destinations direct from the Docklands, where the airline is also launching new services to Berlin and Hamburg this summer.

During July and August, British Airways will offer over 170,000 leisure seats to Europe from London City, 40,000 more than last summer, and will operate extra 433 flights. The busiest days are expected to see more than 20 leisure flights a day.

British Airways will add a new 98-seat Embraer 190 jet at London City in June, which will be the 20th Embraer aircraft to join its fleet there. All British Airways flights include a choice of two cabins, Club Europe and Eurotraveller, complimentary refreshments and drinks on board and no debit card charges, the airline said.

Norwich Airport announces new flights to Alicante, Malaga and Geneva

Norwich International Airport has announced new flights to Alicante, Malaga and Geneva after airport operated Regional & City Airports (RCA) completed an agreement to guarantee winter and summer flights.

RCA, the UK regional airport operator, has strengthened its strategic association with Flybe to introduce year-round scheduled holiday flights at Norwich Airport with seats available for booking from early November after the release of Flybe’s 2016 summer schedule.

The partnership will see the return of scheduled sunshine flights to Norwich for the first time in almost a decade. Year round services from Norwich Airport to Alicante and Malaga will start in March 2016, while the new flight service to Geneva is expected later in 2016.

Sir Peter Rigby, chairman and founder of RCA owners Rigby Group, said: ‘Since taking ownership of Norwich Airport a year ago we have been firm on our commitment to invest in the future of the site. Today, with a milestone agreement guaranteeing the continued operation of scheduled winter and summer holiday routes from the airport, we have underlined that determination with some very concrete results.

‘I am confident that this announcement, which provides tangible proof of the exciting future facing Norwich, will be just first of many positive developments.’

Andrew Bell, who heads up RCA (Regional and City Airports), the airport management division of Rigby Group PLC and owners of Norwich, said: ‘This is a tremendously exciting time. For nine years the issue of reviving scheduled sunshine flights from Norwich has been the number one priority issue raised by our customers, and to see them return from 2016 will be hugely welcomed across the region.’

With the agreement, one of Flybe’s Embraer 195 aircraft will return to the skies and will be used more frequently by the airport. The initial destinations will be available for booking next month, and RCA will investigate the possibility of adding extra routes in case of continued demand, the airport said.

Barrhead Travel, a UK based holiday company, will be operating charter flights from Glasgow Airport, in Scotland, to a number of popular holiday destinations next summer.

The company intends to charter flights to Palma, Malaga, Alicante, Barcelona and Venice, offering a total of around 20,000 seats, between the May and October period in 2013.

Barrhead Travel is offering its charter flights with British Airways aircraft, with amenities that include more legroom for passengers and more luggage allowance.

It is great news for Scottish holidaymakers that Barrhead has expanded its Glasgow Airport programme every year since it began in 2010. With five popular destinations in 2013, we are confident that our partnership is on course for another successful summer.’
