The Association of Touring and Adventure Suppliers (Atas) has taken a strategic step by partnering with AS Training.
This collaboration is aimed at introducing apprentices to the dynamic realms of travel and adventure, enriching their careers with practical experiences and industry insights.
The Association of Touring and Adventure Suppliers (Atas) has aligned with AS Training to provide valuable opportunities to apprentices through their events. This partnership signifies a commitment to fostering future talent within the sector. By engaging apprentices in real-world experiences, the collaboration enhances practical learning, offering them a distinctive edge in an increasingly competitive industry.
Two pioneering apprentices, Sky Needham from Travel the Globe and Hayley Jordan from Destination, were selected for their excellent performance in their ongoing apprenticeships. Their participation included a comprehensive experiential trip to Lake Como, Italy, which featured various enriching activities. These encompassed networking events with local tourism representatives, workshops, and immersive excursions like boat trips on Lake Como and e-biking tours.
The apprentices had the unique opportunity to explore the stunning locales of Lake Como. Sky Needham relished a visit to the famed Villa del Balbianello, known for its appearances in iconic films such as Star Wars and James Bond. Meanwhile, Hayley Jordan participated in an exciting e-biking tour orchestrated by G Adventures, highlighting her adaptability and enthusiasm for diverse experiences.
Atas director, Claire Brighton, emphasized the importance of this partnership in broadening apprentices’ understanding of the travel industry. ‘We believe that participation in such events will not only bolster their confidence but also enhance their ability to market touring and adventure holidays,’ Brighton stated. This initiative is set to continue with further planned activities, including webinars and participation in the forthcoming annual conference.
The pre-event fam trip organised by Intrepid Travel provided an additional layer of understanding and exposure. Apprentices travelled via Eurostar to Paris, explored Montmartre, and continued through Zurich to Lake Como, experiencing different transport modes and regional cultures firsthand. This trip is intended to expand their worldview and appreciation for international travel logistics.
Michelle Van Sprang of AS Training highlighted the meticulous selection process for the apprentices. ‘We chose candidates who excel not only in academics but also in their workplace contributions.’ This approach ensures that the selected apprentices are well-prepared to capitalise on the learning opportunities presented at such events.
Sky Needham conveyed her enthusiasm for incorporating new insights into her work. She is actively sharing experiences via social media, aiming to inform clients about the benefits of rail travel. Similarly, Hayley Jordan reflected on the value of networking and knowledge gained at the event, poised to enhance her professional journey in the travel sector.
The initiative by Atas and AS Training marks a significant stride in shaping the future of the travel industry. It not only equips apprentices with essential skills and experiences but also strengthens their professional journeys.
By fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation of the travel sector, this programme aspires to nurture a new generation of informed and skilled professionals.
