Audley Travel has made significant strides in its pursuit of sustainable tourism, as detailed in its latest sustainability report. The company has showcased progress across multiple fronts, aligning with its Environmental Social Governance (ESG) Framework.

In the past year, Audley Travel has met almost all of its ambitious 2023 ESG targets, demonstrating a deep commitment to responsible tourism practices. With new goals set for 2024, the company is poised to continue its positive trajectory.

    Achievements in Responsible Tourism

Audley Travel is celebrating its accomplishments in sustainability, having met 33 of its 36 ESG targets for 2023. This progress is part of its broader mission to incorporate responsible tourism into its business DNA, in accordance with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and internal priorities.

Heather Magnussen, the manager responsible for sustainable travel at Audley, expressed pride in the company’s achievements, highlighting the B Corporation certification as a testament to their commitment to purposeful operation.

New Initiatives and Goals for 2024

Building on last year’s success, Audley Travel has established 36 new targets for 2024. These initiatives are designed to enhance their existing sustainability practices and continue promoting responsible travel.

The company plans to introduce 200 additional sustainable stays and experiences, expanding upon the 137 added in 2023. This expansion supports their Responsible Choice criteria, making sustainable travel options more accessible to their clients.

    Employee Involvement and Community Engagement

Audley Travel encourages employee participation in volunteer activities as part of its community engagement strategy.

In 2023, over 50% of employees dedicated time to volunteering, contributing a total of 4,475 hours. This involvement has not only fostered a culture of giving back but also enhanced team spirit and commitment to the company’s sustainability goals.

    Carbon Reduction Strategy

Audley Travel’s efforts to reduce its carbon footprint are noteworthy, particularly in collaboration with suppliers to minimise emissions from client trips. The company is transitioning to electric vehicle transfers and exploring options like train travel as alternatives to internal flights.

A carbon webinar hosted in November facilitated idea exchange among suppliers, fostering a collaborative approach to carbon reduction.

The focus on reducing carbon emissions underscores Audley’s determination to mitigate environmental impacts and promote greener travel solutions.

    Looking Ahead with Clear Vision

Audley Travel’s forward-looking strategy emphasises continuous improvement in sustainable practices. By setting clear goals and engaging with industry stakeholders, the company is paving the way for a more sustainable travel future.

With a robust framework and committed team, Audley is prepared to tackle challenges and leverage opportunities in the evolving landscape of responsible tourism.

These strategies reflect Audley’s proactive approach in leading by example in the travel industry.

    Industry Impact and Recognition

Audley Travel’s commitment to sustainability is gaining recognition across the industry. Their ESG efforts and community engagement models are influencing other operators to adopt similar practices.

This recognition not only enhances their brand image but also positions them as a leader in sustainable tourism, encouraging others to follow suit.
