The travel community is once again coming together for a cause that goes beyond borders. This March, 21 dedicated professionals will embark on a challenging trek in Colombia, aiming to raise significant funds for two notable charities—Abta LifeLine and Planeterra.

Over the course of five days, participants will traverse nearly 30 miles of demanding terrain, encountering steep climbs and dense jungles. Led by G Adventures, this mission extends the ‘G Trek For Good’ tradition, aiming to make a substantial impact in communities worldwide.

    A Trek with Purpose

The ‘G Trek For Good’ initiative, organised by G Adventures, is more than just an arduous journey through Colombia’s lush landscapes. It is an embodiment of the travel sector’s commitment to giving back. Participants will navigate remote trail paths, climb 1,200 steps to reach the Lost City, and battle the elements to support vital charitable causes.

This trek marks the third iteration of the initiative, following successful expeditions to Mount Toubkal in Morocco and Mount Kilimanjaro. Each trek aims to raise awareness and support for local and global issues, becoming a symbol of solidarity among industry members.

    Challenges in the Jungle

The upcoming trek presents a unique challenge, differing significantly from previous mountain expeditions. Participants will endure intense humidity, mosquitoes, and other jungle conditions unfamiliar to most.

G Adventures EMEA Managing Director Brian Young noted, “It is not a glorified holiday. Every participant is paying their way, ensuring donations directly benefit charities.” This commitment underscores the drive and determination of those involved, highlighting the genuine passion fueling this endeavour.

    Support and Preparation

Support for the trekkers has been robust, with contributions from entities like ProColombia and various sponsors aiding preparation.

The trekkers’ WhatsApp group plays a pivotal role, providing motivation and sharing training tips. In a demanding environment, such communal support becomes invaluable.

Trudie Clements, Director of Abta LifeLine, emphasised the importance of these efforts, noting the increasing need among industry peers who face financial and personal challenges.

‘Since January, we’ve seen a rise in assistance applications, highlighting the critical role our support plays,’ she stated.

    Empathy and Outreach

The funds raised for Planeterra will contribute to sustainable tourism projects in Colombia. These initiatives promise lasting benefits for local communities, fostering economic growth and cultural preservation.

Clements described the emotional impact of industry-wide support, reiterating the profound belief in the mission’s success. The shared goal binds diverse participants, uniting them in a purpose-driven journey.

Sponsors like easyJet holidays and Kuoni have played crucial roles, highlighting a sector-wide commitment to social responsibility.

Their backing not only supports the trek but also reinforces partnerships that propel meaningful community projects forward.

    Personal and Global Impact

For many trekkers, this event represents one of the most challenging experiences of their lives, pushing them beyond normal limits.

Brian Young expressed the transformative potential of collective action. “Together we demonstrate that our industry can be a powerful force for good,” he stated.

    A Strong Industry United

Uniting the travel sector under such initiatives amplifies the potential for change and aids in addressing challenges globally.

Young and Clements continually express gratitude for the overwhelming support and passion shown by the participants and sponsors.

    Conclusion of the Trek

The completion of the trek will not just mark the end of another charitable event but a significant step in reinforcing the travel industry’s capacity to foster positive change.

The ‘G Trek For Good’ stands as a testament to the power of unity and shared purpose within the travel industry. As trekkers prepare for their journey, the support from sponsors and the broader community ensures a positive impact that will resonate far beyond the trek’s conclusion.

This noble initiative not only aids those in immediate need but also fortifies the bonds within the industry, showcasing the enduring strength and compassion of travel professionals worldwide.
