Oasis Travel staff have achieved a remarkable milestone by raising over £23,000 for charity, marking the company’s 40th anniversary. They engaged in demanding challenges, including a marathon and a cycling event, to support cancer charities.
Scott McCabe, project manager and son of the agency’s founder, ran the Mont Blanc Marathon, raising funds for Marie Curie in memory of his grandfather. Additionally, a team of 15 staff cycled around Northern Ireland to support Nipanc, fostering a spirit of teamwork and solidarity.
Scott McCabe’s participation in the Mont Blanc Marathon was a heartfelt tribute to his grandfather and co-founder of Oasis Travel, Leslie Corkin. McCabe successfully raised over £10,000 for Marie Curie, a testament to his gratitude towards the organisation that provided care to his grandfather during his illness. This initiative not only honoured Leslie Corkin’s memory but also highlighted the agency’s commitment to meaningful causes.
The second challenge saw 15 Oasis Travel staff members, including founder Sandra Corkin, participate in a gruelling cycling event, Pedal The Periphery. They cycled 480 miles around Northern Ireland, raising £13,500 for Nipanc, with a focus on increasing awareness about pancreatic cancer.
The team-building aspect was a memorable experience for the participants. As Corkin noted, it was the best weekend of fun and laughter they had experienced, demonstrating exceptional teamwork and collaboration.
The staff’s dedication to this cause underscores their commitment to community support and advocacy. By participating in these challenges, they have not only raised significant funds but also brought attention to the symptoms and research of this ‘silent killer.’,
Scott McCabe’s motivation was to honour his grandfather’s memory, showing gratitude to the Marie Curie centre that supported Leslie in his final days. This personal connection amplifies the significance of the agency’s fundraising efforts.
