Lindblad Expeditions is set to double its Galapagos fleet through the acquisition of two former Celebrity Cruises vessels, enhancing its expedition offerings in the archipelago.

    • The newly acquired ships will undergo significant refurbishments to meet Lindblad’s standards for responsible exploration and guest comfort.
    • Bookings for these vessels will open soon, with names yet to be disclosed, marking a new era for Lindblad’s presence in the Galapagos.
    • This fleet expansion reflects Lindblad’s ongoing commitment to ecotourism and conservation efforts in one of the world’s most unique ecosystems.
    • The strategic move aims to deepen Lindblad’s impact on conservation, education, and tourism in the Galapagos Islands.

Lindblad Expeditions will soon expand its Galapagos fleet by adding two former Celebrity Cruises vessels, effectively doubling its fleet size. The acquisition involves the Celebrity Xpedition and Celebrity Xploration, soon to be renamed and available for bookings. This strategic move underscores Lindblad’s dedication to providing exceptional expedition experiences.

Each ship will undergo extensive multi-million-dollar refurbishments after the transaction concludes in January 2025. The Celebrity Xpedition, accommodating 48 passengers, features 24 outward-facing cabins, including 13 balcony suites. The Celebrity Xploration, an eight-cabin catamaran, will cater exclusively to private charters, offering a tailored exploration experience.

Sven-Olof Lindblad, Founder and CEO, expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to grow its expeditions in the Galapagos. With a focus on sourcing well-appointed vessels and experienced crews, the company aims to enhance guest experiences while prioritising the preservation of the archipelago’s wonders and wildlife.

Lindblad currently operates the National Geographic Endeavour II and National Geographic Islander II, running 100 year-round departures across six itineraries. This expansion is expected to enrich the diversity of experiences available to Lindblad guests, emphasising responsible travel and eco-consciousness.

Reflecting on the legacy established by his father, Lars-Eric Lindblad, who pioneered international citizen expeditions to the Galapagos nearly six decades ago, Sven-Olof Lindblad acknowledges the foundation laid for ecotourism. He envisions the expanded fleet contributing to meaningful connections while supporting conservation and educational initiatives in the region.

This expansion represents a significant step towards enhancing ecotourism and conservation in the Galapagos, affirming Lindblad’s leadership in responsible travel.
