    The scammer managed to impose limitations on the agency’s Facebook page access, demanding a payment exceeding £400 to remove the restrictions. This event highlights the importance of vigilance and awareness among businesses regarding cybersecurity threats on social platforms.

    The Holiday Shop, a Blackburn-based travel agency, encountered an unsettling cyber assault on their Facebook business page. A malevolent user, alleging copyright infringement, succeeded in imposing access restrictions on the page. The individual demanded €500 for the withdrawal of the accusations, a tactic purportedly targeting smaller businesses perceived as vulnerable.

    The page was flagged with eight complaints in under 48 hours, highlighting a calculated approach to undermine the agency’s operations. Marina Marsh, the agency’s owner, emphasised her resolve against this extortion attempt, opting to accept a 30-day publishing ban rather than succumbing to the demands.
