Hays Travel has initiated a six-week internship programme for three Moroccan students at its Sunderland head office. This initiative follows the successful completion of a similar programme last year.

The three interns, selected through the Education for All charity, are business and management students keen to gain practical experience and insights into the travel industry.

The internship programme at Hays Travel aims to provide practical experience and exposure to various aspects of the travel industry. Each intern follows a tailored programme designed to align with their academic background and professional aspirations. The goal is to equip them with critical skills and knowledge to bolster their future careers.

Hind, aged 20, will focus on retail operations, while Houda, aged 21, will delve into marketing strategies. Laila, also 20, will engage with commercial teams to understand business operations. This programme is their first international experience, marking a significant milestone in their educational journey.

Furthermore, the interns plan to visit London, offering them a broader perspective on life in the UK. This cultural immersion complements their professional learning, providing a well-rounded developmental experience.

Hind and Laila echoed similar sentiments, appreciating the support and friendliness of the Hays Travel team. These interactions have not only provided them with professional skills but also boosted their confidence and adaptability.

Laila highlighted the hardships post-earthquake, noting that many families are still living in tents. Houda and Hind also reflected on the loss of family and friends, emphasising the resilience needed to overcome such adversities.

Riseam-Smith stated, “As an organisation, we are committed to supporting young people and helping them reach their potential – supporting these young people is an extension of that. It’s also a positive initiative for all the colleagues involved.”

Juanita Folmsbee, a board member of the Education for All Association, commented on the transformative impact of these internships. She highlighted that the skills learned and experiences gained not only benefit the interns but also have a ripple effect on their communities back in Morocco.

The six-week internship at Hays Travel offers a unique blend of professional development and cultural exchange for the Moroccan students. Their participation marks a significant step toward achieving their career goals.

This initiative underscores Hays Travel’s dedication to nurturing young talent and Education for All’s mission to empower girls through education and opportunities.
