AS Training has stepped up to assist apprentices impacted by the cancellation of a Level 3 travel consultant course, following the abrupt end of Northern Training Academy’s programme.

The training provider is actively working with travel sector employers to ensure the continuity of apprentices’ education, addressing the needs of approximately 30 affected learners nationwide.

    Addressing the Training Gap

AS Training is in communication with various travel companies, offering support to apprentices affected by Northern Training Academy’s contract loss. The company is committed to providing alternative educational pathways and resources to ensure these learners continue their professional journey. The initiative highlights AS Training’s proactive approach in maintaining the sector’s quality of training and education.

Michelle Van Sprang, Director of AS Training, stated, “We have been working with employers and guiding those who need help with their apprentices to allow them to continue their [learning] journey.” This statement underscores their dedication to resolving the challenges faced by apprentices in the current educational environment.

    Navigating Through Challenges

A key factor in assisting the apprentices is evaluating how far each student has progressed in their course and assessing the availability of government funding. This funding, provided directly by the Department for Education, plays a crucial role in determining the number of apprentices AS Training can accommodate. These considerations are vital in ensuring the successful transfer and continuation of apprenticeship programmes.

Van Sprang emphasised the need for a case-by-case evaluation, expressing hope to assist these individuals as swiftly as possible.

This personalised approach reaffirms their commitment to driving forward the apprentices’ educational prospects despite the challenges faced.

    An Expanding Horizon

AS Training is already anticipating a significant increase in its apprentice intake this year, particularly as it has been designated a recommended provider for Jet2’s new Appoint An Apprentice scheme.

The collaboration with Jet2 is expected to cover half of the apprenticeships available this year, reflecting a strategic partnership aimed at enhancing the skills pipeline within the travel sector.

    A Strategic Partnership with Jet2

Jet2 is offering leftover Apprenticeship Levy funds to agencies, providing a financial lifeline to support apprenticeships. This funding strategy is designed to encourage agencies to bring new talent into the travel industry.

Van Sprang highlighted, “We are going to have our largest intake this year. Our goal is to hit the 200 mark.” This reflects a positive outlook towards expanding the scope of opportunities available within the sector.

    Innovative Training Approaches

AS Training provides specialised training through webinars, talks, and interactive events. These methods are intended to equip apprentices with the knowledge and skills needed for a successful career in travel.

The upcoming National Apprenticeship Week is seen as an opportunity to change perceptions and encourage more businesses to engage with apprenticeship schemes.

    Overcoming Historical Challenges

Van Sprang noted historical challenges that some employers faced with apprenticeships. However, AS Training aims to dispel any negative perceptions by showcasing the easy and effective nature of their programmes.

The organisation’s focus on offering an alternative route for apprentices exemplifies their commitment to improving the overall experience and retention in the travel sector.

    Future Prospects

Looking to the future, AS Training is optimistic about the potential growth and evolution of apprenticeships in the travel industry. The emphasis is on highlighting accessible routes for education and career development, ensuring a steady influx of talent. This vision aligns with industry needs for skilled professionals.

Through strategic partnerships and innovative training solutions, AS Training is poised to influence positive change, ultimately benefiting both apprentices and the travel industry as a whole.

AS Training stands as a pillar in the travel education sector, ensuring the continuance and growth of apprenticeship opportunities. Their strategic collaborations and innovative approaches offer a hopeful future for apprentices affected by recent course cancellations.
