Scandinavia’s SUN-AIR, a franchise partner of British Airways, is planning to expand its range of Nordic destinations from Cambridge to offer connecting services to Stockholm and Helsinki, Cambridge Airport said.
The move comes after the successful introduction of the Gothenburg service in March this year. Passengers from Cambridge travelling to the two Scandinavian capitals – Stockholm and Helsinki – will be able to use the connections at Gothenburg for convenient onward flights, arriving at Stockholm’s downtown Bromma Airport, and at Helsinki’s main Vantaa international airport.
Commenting on the new flight connections, David Surley, head of business and route development at Cambridge International Airport, said: ‘SUN-AIR has not only brought us closer to Scandinavia with its daily midweek Gothenburg flights, in the British Airways brand, it is now connecting Cambridge and our region to two of Europe’s most important capital cities.
‘Flight links to Stockholm’s downtown Bromma Airport take you right to the heart of the Swedish capital, saving valuable time and avoiding lengthy road journeys, while the link to Helsinki is particularly significant – the only connection from the East England region, shaving hours off the alternative journey time using Gatwick or Heathrow airports. The fact these connections are daily Monday to Thursday, with short and easy transfers at Gothenburg, is super convenient for Cambridge customers on both business and leisure alike.’
Daily flights are operated from Cambridge, Monday-Thursday at 0700 hours to arrive in Stockholm Bromma around lunchtime, or early afternoon at Helsinki. Return flights depart Helsinki and Stockholm at approximately 1600 hours, with short transfer en-route and arrive in Cambridge at 1900 hours local time.
For holidaymakers, a three-night city-break in Stockholm this winter, staying at Stockholm’s centrally located floating hotels such as the Anedin, Rygerfjord, Loginn or a three-star Malardrottningen Yacht Hotel, start from GBP396 per person including return flights, breakfasts and based on two adults sharing, by online travel portal skyscanner.com. Alternatively, a luxury seven-night Baltic cruise from Stockholm aboard Costa Luminosa with ports of call including St Petersburg, Helsinki and Tallinn, will cost from approximately GBP1,099 per person.
A two-night business visit to Helsinki staying at the four-star Scandic Grand Marina Hotel is priced from GBP460 per person including return flights, or the five-star Hilton Helsinki Kalastajatorppa from GBP485 per person.
