European regional airline, Flybe will operate a fourth Italian route from Cardiff, offering holidaymakers a chance to fly direct to Venice for the first time in summer 2018.

Venice, the capital city of Northern Italy’s Veneto region located in a lagoon in the Adriatic Sea, is one of the world’s leading tourist destinations. A World Heritage Site with its diverse architecture, Venice was named the Most Beautiful City in the World in 2016 and is the location for several popular films, TV shows and music videos and the setting for many works of literature.

Venice also serves as a popular port for several cruise operators and is well-located for customers looking for a cruise around the Mediterranean, with flight times scheduled to suit the needs of cruise customers.

Ronnie Matheson, Flybe’s Interim chief commercial officer commented: ‘We are pleased to offer passengers this brand new route to Venice as part of our 2018 Summer schedule. It boosts further the large selection of flights to great city and sun destinations available from our popular Cardiff base.

‘The ongoing success of our services from Cardiff Airport reflects Flybe’s commitment to listening and responding to the needs of our customers, who are increasingly enjoying the time and cost-saving convenience of travelling from their own regional airport. We would advise people to book their summer breaks now to take advantage of our early bird low fares.’

Deb Barber, CEO of Cardiff Airport, added: ‘There’s no place quite like Venice. It offers miles of waterways, cobbled streets and hidden gems located on every corner. And, while it’s the ideal romantic destination, it’s also a very useful access point for cruise customers across the region. Our customers eagerly await the start of this route – it’s another welcome addition to Flybe’s ever-growing choice of destinations.’

Operated using Embraer jet aircraft, the twice weekly service will operate on Tuesdays and Saturdays from March 27, and is currently available for travel until September 9. One way fares from £34.99 including taxes and charges are available for booking now at www.flybe.com.

Flybe’s 2018 summer schedule from Cardiff features a total of 17 routes, offering customers a choice of up to 75 flights a week, the airport said.
