    Holidaymakers Put Off The Eurozone By High Prices

    Recent research conducted into alcohol prices across Europe reveals that tourists jetting off to traditional package holiday resorts are paying double for drinks, compared to those who spend their vacation in the UK. Lake District holiday cottage provider Absolute Escapes Lettings commissioned the study, which highlighted the effect that rising prices have had on British travellers to the Eurozone. Average alcohol prices in the UK were significantly lower than in popular sun spots such as Spain and Greece, even when promotions like happy hours were taken into account.

    Shirley Thompson, Managing Director of Absolute Escapes Lettings Ltd spoke about the findings;

    “While the weak pound may be good for UK exports, it isn’t so good for tourists sitting by the pool bar on the Costa Brava drinking a Carslberg Export. We found that UK destinations like the Lake District averaged around half the price of drinks in Greece and Spain, something which holidaymakers may not have factored in when working out the budget for their trip. You can come to the Lakes and enjoy the wonderful scenery over a pint of real ale for under three pounds, or you can spend double that or more in some popular foreign tourist resorts – it is certainly something that needs to be thought about before you book a holiday.”

    With package holiday travellers across Europe seeking an escape from high Eurozone prices, destinations like Turkey, Tunisia and Bulgaria have been becoming more popular. But as demand increases for hotel rooms in these countries from the Germans and Russians, prices are rising there too – making the UK a more and more attractive proposition for tourists. Record numbers of UK holidaymakers are choosing to holiday on their own shores, with high prices in Europe a key reason for the trend.

    Shirley concluded;

    “This research simply confirms what I hear every day from customers booking their Lake District cottage holidays with us – visitors are realising that you can get more for your money in destinations like the Lakes. People are re-discovering what is on their own doorstep in this country, helping the economy and most importantly, saving some money for them and their family”.
