Virgin Atlantic has announced a new daily seasonal service flying between London Heathrow and Cape Town, allowing UK holidaymakers and sun-seekers to explore South Africa this winter.

The first flight will take off on October 25, 2020. The new service will operate on a Boeing 787-9 aircraft complementing the existing daily service to Johannesburg and will be on sale from February 18, 2020. Tickets can be booked at www.virginatlantic.com .

Juha Jarvinen, chief commercial officer, Virgin Atlantic commented: ‘2020 is an extremely exciting year of continued growth for Virgin Atlantic. Not only are we launching a new service to Sao Paulo in March but we’re delighted to announce a new seasonal service to Cape Town offering more choice for our customers than ever before.

‘We’re delighted to be flying to Cape Town again – we’re expecting a high proportion of leisure travellers on this route taking advantage of the winter sun, the safaris and of course, the world-famous wine region.’

The new VS478 service will be operated as a night flight departing Heathrow at 16:20 arriving into Cape Town at 05:55, whereas the inbound, the VS479, will depart at 08:00 landing later that day at 18:00. Return Economy fares start from GBP713 per person.

Virgin Atlantic has recently announced a new transatlantic joint venture with Delta, Air France and KLM. The expanded agreement covers up to 341 peak daily transatlantic services across 110 nonstop routes and represents 23 percent of total passenger and cargo transatlantic capacity. Under the agreement, frequent flyer programme members will be able to earn and use miles, and enjoy elite benefits for flights on any of the four airlines’ worldwide operations, including a transatlantic trip, intra-Europe hop, or domestic US journey.
