    The ultimate list of family-friendly ski resorts for winter 2024 – with kid tickets from just €16

    • Ski resort Les 3 Vallées comes second, with a 4.6 out of five ski experience rating, according to reviewers 

    Travel experts at Seine River Cruises analysed data from skiresort.info and booking.com to identify the top 10 most affordable family-friendly ski resorts in France for winter 2024.

    The researchers examined 193 resorts to determine the best options, ranking them based on a range of key factors. Each resort received an overall affordability score out of 100, which determined its position in the final ranking.

    Factors assessed included resort ratings, elevation difference, peak altitude, total slope length, and the distribution of slopes into easy, intermediate, and advanced levels, as well as the number of available ski lifts.

    The study also considered ticket prices for adults and children, the number of accommodation options within one mile of the three nearest towns, and the average cost of a seven-night stay, resulting in a comprehensive list of the best budget-friendly ski destinations for families this season.

    1. Ski resort Via Lattea – Sestriere/​Sauze d’Oulx/​San Sicario/​Claviere/​Montgenèvre 

    The study identified Via Lattea as the most cost-effective ski resort in France, achieving an overall score of 72.3 out of 100. With a high skiing experience rating of 4.2 out of five, Via Lattea offers a substantial elevation difference of 1,251 metres, reaching a peak altitude of 2,789 metres.  

    The resort boasts 400 km of ski slopes, with a well-balanced mix of difficulty levels: 96 km of easy slopes, 220 km of intermediate slopes, and 84 km of challenging slopes, all serviced by 70 lifts.  

    Ticket prices are also relatively affordable, with adult passes priced at €58 and children’s tickets at €16. Additionally, visitors can access 92 nearby accommodation options, with the average cost for a seven-night stay coming to €2,373. 

    2. Ski resort Les 3 Vallées – Val Thorens/​Les Menuires/​Méribel/​Courchevel 

    Ranking second is Les 3 Vallées, with an overall score of 71.7 out of 100. Known for its excellent facilities and high skiing experience rating of 4.6 out of five, it features a remarkable elevation difference of 2,130 metres, reaching up to 3,230 metres at its highest point.

    Les 3 Vallées features an extensive 600 km of ski slopes, with 312 km dedicated to easy trails, 216 km for intermediate skiers, and 72 km of challenging slopes, all supported by 157 lifts across the resort.  

    Ticket prices are €79 for adults and €64.70 for children, offering access to one of France’s most diverse ski areas, with 300 accommodation options and an average seven-night stay costing €1,870. 

    3. Ski resort Les 2 Alpes 

    Ranking as the third most cost-effective ski resort in France, Les 2 Alpes achieved an overall score of 71.2 out of 100. With a skiing experience rating of 4.3 out of five, Les 2 Alpes offers an impressive elevation difference of 2,243 metres, reaching a peak altitude of 3,523 metres.  

    The resort provides 200 km of slopes, catering to various skill levels, with 110 km of easy slopes, 56 km for intermediate skiers, and 34 km of challenging runs, supported by 44 lifts. Ticket prices are set at €63 for adults and €50.50 for children, allowing access to this versatile ski area.  

    Additionally, the resort offers 372 accommodation options, with an average cost of €1,588 for a seven-night stay, making Les 2 Alpes a highly affordable choice. 

    4. Ski resort Alpe d’Huez 

    With a skiing experience rating of 4.2 out of five, Alpe d’Huez ranks fourth among the most cost-effective ski resorts in France, achieving an overall score of 70.3 out of 100. It features an elevation difference of 2,205 metres, reaching a peak altitude of 3,330 metres.  

    The resort provides 250 km of slopes, accommodating all skill levels, with 70 km of easy runs, 130 km of intermediate trails, and 50 km of advanced slopes, serviced by 69 lifts.  

    Ticket prices are set at €62 for adults and €51.5 for children, granting access to this extensive terrain. Additionally, the resort features 109 accommodation options nearby, with an average seven-night stay costing €2,866. 

    5. Ski resort Tignes/​Val d’Isère 

    Tignes/Val d’Isère is the sixth best and most cost-effective ski resort in France, achieving an overall score of 70.1 out of 100 and a high skiing experience rating of 4.6 out of five.

    With an elevation difference of 1,906 metres and a peak altitude of 3,456 metres, the resort spans 300 km of slopes across different levels (170 km of easy runs, 78 km of intermediate trails, and 52 km for advanced skiers), supported by 85 lifts.  

    Ticket prices of €71 for adults and €59 for children provide access to the extensive ski area. With 245 nearby accommodation options and a seven-night stay averaging €2,566, Tignes/Val d’Isère offers excellent variety and value.

    6. Ski resort La Plagne (Paradiski) 

    The sixth most cost-effective resort is La Plagne, with an overall score of 69.9 out of 100 and a skiing experience rating of 4.4 out of five.  

    It offers an elevation difference of 1,960 metres, a peak altitude of 3,167 metres, and 225 km of slopes, including 139 km of easy runs, 59 km of intermediate trails, and 27 km of difficult slopes, supported by 74 lifts.  

    Ticket prices are €65 for adults and €52 for children. With 350 nearby accommodation options and an average seven-night stay at €1,380, La Plagne is an excellent choice for cost-effective skiing. 

    7. Ski resort Le Grand Massif – Flaine/​Les Carroz/​Morillon/​Samoëns/​Sixt 

    Ranking seventh is Le Grand Massif, with an overall score of 67.8 out of 100. The resort holds a skiing experience rating of 4.1 out of five and features an elevation difference of 1,783 metres, reaching a peak altitude of 2,480 metres.  

    It offers 265 km of slopes (135 km easy, 95 km intermediate, and 35 km difficult), supported by 62 lifts.

    Ticket prices are €57.50 for adults and €46 for children. With 72 nearby accommodation options and an average seven-night stay costing just €991, Le Grand Massif is the most affordable resort on the list. 

    8. Ski resort Les Arcs/​Peisey-Vallandry (Paradiski) 

    In eighth place is Les Arcs/Peisey-Vallandry, with an overall score of 67.7 out of 100 and a skiing experience rating of 4.1 out of five.  

    This resort offers an elevation difference of 2,026 metres, reaching a maximum altitude of 3,226 metres. It includes 200 km of slopes, with 104 km of easy runs, 70 km of intermediate trails, and 26 km of difficult slopes, supported by 53 lifts.  

    Ticket prices are €65 for adults and €52 for children. Les Arcs/Peisey-Vallandry offers 149 nearby accommodation options, with an average cost for a seven-night stay at €2,052, making it an appealing choice for ski enthusiasts. 

    9. Ski resort Serre Chevalier – Briançon/​Chantemerle/​Villeneuve-la-Salle/​Le Monêtier-les-Bains 

    The ninth best and most cost-effective ski resort in France is Serre Chevalier, with an overall score of 67.6 out of 100 and a skiing experience rating of 4.4 out of five. This resort has an elevation difference of 1,600 metres and a peak altitude of 2,800 metres.  

    It offers 250 km of slopes, including 137.5 km of easy runs, 80 km of intermediate routes, and 32.5 km of challenging trails, along with 59 lifts. Adult tickets are priced at €63, and children’s tickets are €51.50.  

    With 186 nearby accommodation options and a seven-night stay averaging €1,374, Serre Chevalier is among the most affordable choices on the list. 

    10. Ski resort Les Portes du Soleil – Morzine/​Avoriaz/​Les Gets/​Châtel/​Morgins/​Champéry 

    Ranking tenth is Les Portes du Soleil, with an overall score of 67.1 out of 100. The resort holds a skiing experience rating of 4.3 out of 5 and features an elevation difference of 1,269 metres, reaching the highest point of 2,254 metres.  

    It offers an extensive 580 km of slopes (310 km easy, 210 km intermediate, and 60 km difficult), supported by 165 lifts.  

    Ticket prices are €70 for adults and €53 for children. Les Portes du Soleil provides 474 nearby accommodation options, with an average seven-night stay costing €1,891. 

    Magdalena Petrusic, travel expert from Seine River Cruises, commented on the results: “As the skiing season approaches, it is helpful to know which ski resorts in France offer the best mix of quality and value.   

    “With over 100 resorts to choose from, this list should make it easier for families and friends to find what suits them best—whether that is a resort with long, challenging slopes or one with the most affordable accommodation. There is something here for everyone.”
