British Airways is set to reintroduce flights between London Heathrow and Tbilisi, marking its return to the Georgian capital after more than a decade. The services, featuring the Airbus A320-neo, will commence from March 30, 2025.

Offering four flights per week, British Airways will facilitate travel from various UK cities to Tbilisi, enhancing connectivity for both leisure and business travellers.

    Reviving a Popular Route

In a strategic move, British Airways is set to restart its London to Tbilisi route. This decision comes after over ten years, with the last service having been operated in 2013. The route is anticipated to attract considerable interest, particularly how the leisure market has rebounded robustly since 2019.

Neil Chernoff, BA’s Chief Planning and Strategy Officer, expressed enthusiasm, stating, “We’re delighted to welcome Tbilisi back into our route network.”

    Flight Details and Costs

The flights will utilise the Airbus A320-neo aircraft, a popular choice for short to medium-haul routes. Commencing on March 30, 2025, these flights provide options with two travel classes. Return fares will start at a competitive £275.

This affordable pricing strategy aligns with British Airways’ goal to make international travel more accessible to a wider audience. Moreover, the convenient scheduling is expected to appeal to both business and leisure travellers.

    Expanding Connectivity

Passengers from regional UK locations such as Edinburgh, Belfast, Manchester, and Newcastle will benefit from this new offering. They can book a single ticket that covers both their domestic flight to Heathrow and their international journey to Tbilisi.

This streamlined ticketing process underscores British Airways’ intention to enhance connectivity between the UK and Georgia, facilitating smoother travel experiences.

The decision to resume flights also aims to strengthen ties between the two capitals, potentially boosting economic interactions and cultural exchanges.

    Strategic Importance for Georgia

The Georgian Government has welcomed this development positively, signalling its importance for the nation’s economic and tourism sectors. Mariam Kvrivishvili, Georgia’s Deputy Minister for Economy and Sustainable Development, highlighted the significance of this new connectivity.

She noted that British Airways’ choice to re-enter the Georgian market is a recognition of the country’s growing importance as a tourism and business destination.

With increased flight options, Georgia aims to boost its profile in the UK market and foster closer ties with strategic partners, including the USA.

    Enhancing UK-Georgia Relations

This route relaunch is expected to improve bilateral relations between the UK and Georgia, fostering deeper ties in various sectors. The enhanced air connectivity will provide new opportunities for trade, tourism, and cultural exchanges.

Such developments align with Georgia’s strategic objectives to expand its global reach and strengthen partnerships with key international players.

The airline’s decision is seen as a potential catalyst for increased collaboration and investment across both public and private sectors.

    British Airways’ Commitment to Growth

British Airways continues to expand its reach, with Tbilisi being one of the latest additions to its route network. This decision underscores the airline’s commitment to reconnecting with previously served destinations and exploring emerging markets.

By investing in this route, British Airways aims to leverage growing demands and establish a strong presence in Eastern Europe. The company remains focused on providing high-quality service and enhancing passenger experiences.
