easyJet, one the UK’s largest airline, is expecting today to be the busiest day in its history, with holidaymakers and travellers taking advantage of the airlines low fares as the busy summer season draws to a close.
easyJet will operate a total of 1,451 flights on September 5, carrying over 210,000 passengers to popular destinations across Europe, the Middle East and North Africa, it said.
Business travellers are also flying in increasing numbers this week as Europe returns to business after summer. Nearly one fifth of easyJet’s passengers are travelling on business, mainly on day trips and to all the key cities in Europe.
The popular leisure break destinations for UK holidaymakers departing this Friday include sunspots like Malaga and Alicante, along with cities like Barcelona. The busiest business destinations are Paris, Amsterdam and Geneva.
Sophie Dekkers, easyJet’s UK Director, said: ‘We always find that our busy summer season continues well into September as many of our customers take advantage of schools going back, our low fares and fantastic range of destinations. We’re delighted that so many passengers have chosen to start their late-summer breaks with us.
‘This coincides with Europe getting back to business after the summer break. Business passengers are attracted to easyJet due to the airline’s low fares, industry leading punctuality and friendly service across Europe’s leading network – all of these factors help the airline to both attract and retain new business customers.
‘Our busiest day comes shortly after our busiest August ever – with 8.4% more passengers travelling with us this August compared with last. And our planes flew more than 94% full during the month which is the highest ever load factor recorded by the airline.
‘We always strive to make our passengers’ journey as easy as possible, and offer all our customers online check-in up to 30 days in advance, mobile boarding passes and live flight updates on our flight tracker tool so they can keep constantly updated even while on the move.’
easyJet carries more than 63 million passengers annually, of which 12 million travel on business. easyJet operates more than 700 routes across 32 countries and over 130 airports.
