Jet2.com, a British low-cost airline based out of Leeds Bradford Airport, is to commence flights to Budapest, Hungary, from East Midlands Airport in the UK.

East Midlands will be the third UK airport from which Jet2 provides flights to Budapest, after Edinburgh and Manchester, and the flights will operate twice weekly with fares starting from £55 one way.

Steve Heapy, chief executive of Jet 2, said, ‘We’re thrilled to be the only airline to give travellers from East Midlands and central England direct flights to this popular central European city, right from their doorstep. We’ve made this route available following huge customer demand so we are very confident it will be a great success.’

Kam Jandu, Budapest airport aviation director, added, ‘We are delighted that Jet2.com has decided to operate a new route to and from East Midlands, an expanding UK regional airport. Not only will this have a positive impact on the local economy, but it will give the people of Budapest a much needed link to central England.’

In addition to Leeds Bradford, Jet2 has operating bases in Belfast, Blackpool, East Midlands, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Manchester and Newcastle. The company has approximately 42 aircraft in its fleet, flies to over 54 destinations, and carried 4.2 million passengers during 2011. Since its inception under the name Channel Express (Air Services) in 1978, the company had grown to employ about 1,500 employees as of January 2011, and adopted the Jet2 brand name in 2003.

Further details of the new Budapest route and all other Jet2 information can be found at www.jet2.com.
