Sally Cope will be leaving her role as the Regional General Manager for UK and Northern Europe at Tourism Australia by the end of June.

Over her six-year tenure, she has notably enhanced the UK’s market position, showcasing her strategic acumen and leadership skills.

Sally Cope, Regional General Manager for the UK and Northern Europe at Tourism Australia, is set to depart from her role at the end of June. Over her six-year tenure, Cope has significantly strengthened the UK market. “All of our arrival figures are looking strong,” she asserted, referencing the UK’s 83% recovery compared to pre-pandemic levels in 2019.

Cope highlighted Turkish Airlines’ inaugural flight to Melbourne as a sign of evolving aviation dynamics. “We also have upcoming events such as the British and Irish Lions’ tours, the Rugby World Cup, and the decade-long ‘green and gold’ celebration leading up to the 2032 Olympics,” she noted, confident these events would further energise tourism.

Having dedicated 35 years to the tourism industry, Cope plans a six-month sabbatical to travel Europe, citing a need for rest. “I’ve only ever taken three-week holidays, so this is a change,” Cope shared. Her journey will begin with the Coast2Coast trek in the UK.

Following her travels, Cope will return to Sydney to explore new professional opportunities. This transition marks the start of a fresh chapter in her career. Meanwhile, Tourism Australia has commenced a comprehensive search for her successor.

Under Cope’s leadership, the UK tourism market has advanced considerably. Her strategic vision played a crucial role in aligning UK tourism’s recovery with its pre-pandemic performance. The next phase in tourism recovery is expected to continue on this trajectory with strategic aviation partnerships.
