March 17th is just around the corner, and with it comes St. Patrick’s Day, the national day of Ireland and a celebration that turns the whole world’s attention toward the Emerald Isle. There’s truly no better time to visit Ireland than then, and if you too plan on joining the festivities in less than two months, it’s time to start planning. Luckily, Ireland has a lot to offer not only for those who want to dress up in all green and listen to folk music, but also for those looking for a trip full of rich history, incredible landscapes, or one-of-a-kind experiences. If you want to make your spring vacation unforgettable, here’s a short yet comprehensive bucket list of everything you need to see, take home, and eat.

What to Visit: Iconic Irish Destinations

    Dublin

Every trip to Ireland must start, undoubtedly, in Dublin, but on St. Patrick’s Day, the capital city is more exciting than ever. To make the most out of it, get dressed up and join a parade, then enjoy a pint of Guinness at a local pub or watch the folk dancers and bagpipe players. Dublin is also home to the Trinity College, where the stunning Book of Kells is located, and if you want to learn more about the country’s past, don’t forget to put the Kilmainham Gaol Museum on your list as well.

    Cliffs of Moher

If you’ve been to Ireland but missed the Cliffs of Moher, there’s no way you can say that you’ve experienced the country. This rugged coastline with its majestic Atlantic views is located only three hours away from the capital city and it’s guaranteed to take your breath away. Make sure to visit this destination early in the morning or late in the afternoon so that you can avoid the crowds and enjoy a quieter moment by yourself.

    Galway

Galway is the fifth biggest city in Ireland, and certainly one that will steal your heart. It’s a cozy place known for its colorful streets, lively traditional music pouring out of pubs, and a great nightlife – something for everyone. And if you’re lucky enough to visit it during the warmer days, take a trip to the nearby Aran Islands as well.

What to Get: Souvenirs to Bring Back Home

    Aran Sweaters

An Aran sweater has to make its way in your luggage at the end of your trip. Hand-knitted with intricate patterns, these sweaters are as much about tradition as they are about keeping cozy, and there’s truly no better souvenir to get for yourself and your loved ones.

    Tweed Caps

The Irish have always been highly appreciated for their tweed garments and accessories, and a sleek Irish tweed cap makes a perfect souvenir that you will actually wear all the time back home. Even better, if you want to be 100% prepared for your trip, you can get one ahead of time, from an authentic online store that sells traditional Irish tweed caps for everyone.

    Celtic Jewelry

Celtic jewelry is now more popular than ever, so why not get it directly from its birthplace? While in Ireland, look for rings, bracelets, and necklaces that feature Celtic knots, Claddagh symbols, and other ancient motifs.

What to Eat: The Best Taste of Ireland

    Irish Stew and Soda Bread

When it comes to traditional food that you need to try on your vacation, a hearty bowl of Irish stew is a staple that you can’t skip. This stew is made with tender lamb or beef, vegetables such as potatoes, carrots, parsnips, and onions, and a rich broth that makes it the ultimate comfort food. Pair it with freshly baked soda bread and you’ll get a combination made in heaven.

    Seafood

Ireland is an island, meaning it has almost unlimited access to the most fresh and delicious seafood you’ll ever try. It’s the perfect place to treat yourself to some oysters, smoked salmon, and of course the iconic fish and chips.

    Irish Sweets

If you have a sweet tooth, you’ll find plenty of delicacies in Ireland. Never turn down a slice of rich and spiced barmbrack, the traditional fruit loaf, a piece of Irish apple cake, or, for chocolate lovers, the beloved Butlers Chocolates.
