Pierre-Mary Bachelet: The Hotel Industry in Paris

Located at Essômes Sur Marne near Disneyland Paris, ibis Château-Thierry was opened by Pierre-Mary Bachelet in 1989. At this time, he was the youngest franchisee of Accor Hotels in the world.

This article will explore the state of the Parisienne hotel industry in 2023.

Arriving in the wake of terrorist attacks, the yellow-vest movement, and nationwide transportation strikes, the COVID-19 pandemic and related travel restrictions had a huge impact on the French capital’s tourism industry. Nevertheless, strong support from the French Government combined with the city’s global appeal have culminated in an impressive rebound in the Parisienne tourism sector. The easing of restriction restrictions following a successful vaccination rollout across Europe drove a rise in tourist numbers from June 2021, resulting in a market rebound in the second half of the year in line with the country’s increasing economic growth.

Thanks to strong fundamentals, Paris has remained one of the world’s most desirable destinations for hotel investment for over a decade, according to a report from Hospitality Net. The report reveals that Paris’s tourism industry remained robust until the terrorist attacks of 2016, with visitor numbers hovering between the 15 million and 16.5 million mark. 2017 to 2019 marked a period of strong recovery, with 2019 making history as a record year for tourist arrivals.

As witnessed in other countries, COVID-19 had a devastating impact on Paris’s tourism sector, with demand dropping off significantly from March 2020. However, France saw a strong rebound in demand in June 2021, with the recovery initially driven by an increased appetite for leisure travel both domestically and across Europe. In addition, a slow but sustained return of face-to-face events like sporting fixtures also triggered an increase in momentum in the tourism industry through 2022.

With 55 air-conditioned rooms spread across two floors, ibis Château-Thierry is served by an elevator and 24-hour reception desk. For business guests, the property features three recently renovated air-conditioned modular meeting rooms. Close to downtown Château-Thierry and just a short car ride from the SNCF station, the hotel bar features a fireplace and terrace, providing a cozy space for champagne afficionados to take their pick from the à la carte menu – with the hotel located just minutes from the legendary medieval cellars of Champagnes Pannier.

Accommodation at the property is designed with functionality and comfort in mind, with rooms facing the rising or setting sun and incorporating an ensuite bathroom, top quality bed linen, and numerous facilities.

Pierre-Mary Bachelet sold ibis Château-Thierry in 2016. More recently, he decided to create a prototype of a new concept in Europe. Also situated near Disneyland Paris, this new flagship hotel is due to be completed in 2023.
