The Shard, a skyscraper located in the Southwark area of London, previously known as the Shard London Bridge, or the London Bridge Tower, has recently opened its observation deck, ‘The View from The Shard’.

The Shard is the tallest building in Western Europe, at 1,016ft, and The View from The Shard observation area is housed on the 68th to 72nd floors of the structure. For the viewing platform’s official opening, tickets are being sold at GBP25 for adults and GBP18.95 for children.

The viewing platforms are accessible by lifts, which will take the visitors to the building’s 68th floor in 30 seconds. From there it is a short walk to the glass-fronted, Level 69, and its panoramic views of the surrounding cityscape. The highest point that can be accessed by ‘The View From The Shard’ visitors is Level 72, from where they can also see the few remaining levels above.

Irvine Sellar, the chairman of Sellar Property, which has developed The Shard, said, ‘The Shard is an iconic addition to the capital’s skyline and will be one that all of London can access and enjoy.

It will become as essential a part of a visit to London as going to the top of the Empire State building is for visitors on a trip to New York.’

The organisers of the observation deck have reported that the journey to the deck will be free of crowd and queue, although the deck’s exact capacity is still unknown. Around 17,500 people have currently registered to purchase tickets in advance.
