Explora Journeys has officially announced the departure of its CEO, Michael Ungerer, citing ‘personal reasons’ for his decision to step aside from his executive role.

Having led the company for almost five years, Ungerer’s leadership was instrumental in establishing the MSC Group’s luxury lifestyle brand, particularly marking the successful launch of their first ship, Explora I.

Michael Ungerer, the chief executive officer of Explora Journeys, has decided to step down from his role due to ‘personal reasons’. This decision marks a significant transition for the luxury cruise line, which Ungerer has been a part of since its inception nearly five years ago. Under his guidance, the company has grown to become a notable entity in the luxury cruise industry.

Pierfrancesco Vago, executive chair of the Cruise Division of MSC Group, expressed his gratitude towards Ungerer, recognising his contributions and leadership in bringing the new brand to life. “It has been an absolute pleasure working alongside Michael,” Vago stated, applauding the strides made under Ungerer’s leadership.

Ungerer described his experience with Explora Journeys as a ‘once in a lifetime opportunity’, highlighting the unique journey of building a luxury hospitality brand from scratch. He expressed his gratitude towards Vago and the Aponte family for their visionary approach and support.

Koral Lipton brings extensive experience from her previous role as a business development manager at APT Travel Group. Her addition reflects Explora Journeys’ commitment to enhancing their sales and marketing capabilities in critical markets.

The first wave season in the UK is a testament to their strategic direction, showcasing Explora Journeys’ dedication to offering unparalleled luxury experiences to a discerning clientele.

As the company moves forward, the foundation set by Ungerer and the guidance from interim leadership aim to uphold and enhance Explora Journeys’ reputation in the industry.

The upcoming months will be pivotal for Explora Journeys as they navigate this leadership change. The company’s focus remains on innovation, growth, and exceeding the expectations of their luxury clientele.

The transition in leadership at Explora Journeys marks a new chapter for the company as it continues to build on the strong foundation laid by Michael Ungerer.

With a committed team and strategic growth initiatives in place, the company is poised to maintain its competitive edge in the luxury cruise sector.
