Hurtigruten, a pioneer in Norwegian coastal cruising, is expanding its premium Signature collection to meet growing demand for immersive Arctic and Norwegian experiences. Starting summer 2026, MS Midnatsol will join the Signature fleet alongside MS Trollfjord, following a full refurbishment to enhance its onboard offerings. Simultaneously, MS Vesterålen will resume full-time service on the Bergen–Kirkenes route as part of the Original Coastal Express, reinforcing Hurtigruten’s commitment under its state service agreement.
“Demand for voyages along the Norwegian coast continues to rise sharply – particularly for journeys that offer authentic experiences, comfort, and a deep connection with nature and culture,” said Hedda Felin, CEO of Hurtigruten. “By introducing MS Midnatsol as a Signature ship, we are meeting this demand with an upgraded vessel that perfectly complements our existing fleet.”
From summer 2026, MS Midnatsol will offer regular sailings between Bergen and Longyearbyen on the Svalbard Line. In winter, it will alternate with the recently renamed MS Finnmarken (formerly MS Otto Sverdrup) on the North Cape Line, departing weekly from Hamburg. Hurtigruten’s Signature voyages include longer port visits, all-inclusive dining, unique excursions and locally sourced ingredients from over 70 suppliers.
As of early May 2025, global bookings for upcoming Signature voyages were up more than 40% year-on-year. Hurtigruten’s Signature concept has rapidly emerged as a key growth driver, particularly in the UK market.
“Demand for Signature voyages in the UK has been exceptional”, said James Howlett, Head of Sales UK. “In total, our Signature bookings are up over 100% year to date, with trade up over 200%. This strong performance gives us a solid foundation to accelerate further growth in the UK.”
“These are voyages that combine the best of Norwegian nature, culture, and hospitality. The fact that demand is increasing so significantly confirms that we have struck a chord with the market,” Howlett added.
To support this fleet reshuffle, MS Vesterålen will rejoin the Original Coastal Express fleet from spring 2026. The vessel underwent major upgrades in 2019, including new engines, and energy-efficiency measures, making it well-suited to serve under the current state.
“We are very much looking forward to welcoming MS Vesterålen back into service,” Felin said. “This ship has a unique charm and a proud history that resonates strongly with many of our loyal guests.”
